Hi Ruth,

>> Ron about.. "Honey, can you move the washer/dryer upstairs?" (g). It
>> IS so much easier than lugging clothes downstairs and then back up.

> It's something Dad didn't think about when he built the house. He was
> still young (early 30s) and in good health. He should have tried to
> project 50 years ahead.

I don't know of a person who could think that far ahead (g) And I guess it
depends on what's important to you 'at the time'. It could have been more
uncomfortable to take up living space then with a washer/dryer.

>Then too, he built as compactly as he could.
> When he started, there were only 3 kids. Number 4 was born about a week
> after moving in; #5 came 19 months later. It was a tight fit then.

Makes sense.

> Looking back, we should have approached my folks about a remodel job
> about 25 years ago--after the last one left home. The money would have
> been there and they might have been more open to it instead of being so
> set against it as they are now.

That would have been good for them ..

>> hear anything strange though. Right now you should check the date when
>> you bought it, you only have a one year warranty. :(

> It's going in for repair as we leave. We got it just after the picnic
> at your house 2 years ago so it's out of warranty. Didn't realise how
> much I used it until I couldn't.

I understand that completely. When my original one died after having it for
soooooo many years, I was truly at a loss... When Ron bought the Professional
for me for my birthday, I was in heaven (g).

>> Yes, it is funny sometimes, but so far since their nails are clipped,
>> they aren't skidding much (laugh) But watch out when they start
>> charging through (g). Sometimes they just run around the house in
>> circles and I have to yell at them "OUTSIDE!" and out the door they
>> go, the three of them (haha)

> All 3 trying to go thru the doggy door at once? That must be a sight!

hahahahaha I have actually seen them try that! They don't make it though (g)
Toby always makes it first (surprising (g)) and he pretty much fills up the dog
door...and then the two puppies both either go through at the same time or
close to it. But in their maddening dash for the dog door, sometimes all three
of them do try to squash through :)

>> it's thought. He's doing ok though, and mostly having problems with

> It's good you found out, not so good the diagnosis. Our prayers are with
> you as the 2 of you learn how to deal with the various ins and outs of
> it.

Thank you, to both of you. It's another little issue one comes upon in life,
as I see it. I think if I didn't have MS for all these years, I probably
_would_ have freaked out when I heard it, if you know what I mean.

>> garbage with the Exterra worked out so well in getting the new car.
>> He didn't need any more stress than he already had gotten :(

> That's for sure!

Now we're trying to sell the xterra to someone who won't mind rebuilding the
engine.. I was able to see the pathfinder which helps a lot. How we ended up
with two of those SUVs is beyond me (grin).. actually, we bought the pathfinder
when we were in KY, used. So we'd had that one for over 10 years.. the Xterra I
thought would last longer than it did, but it already had a LOT of mileage on
it when my daughter's father in law sold it to us (he traveled across the
country a lot with it). So it made sense it went first (g).

>>> up, but the kicker was the attitude of some of the people in the
>>> development. No one was 'good enough' over there :)

>> > That would have turned me off fast!

>> Yes, exactly.. we started looking right away after the 'mail box'
>> event (G).

> Too bad you couldn't have found out about the area before moving in.

It was hard given the distances involved and the way the companies worked out
the deal.. "right now" was more like what we heard (g). I'm glad we ended up
only renting that first house :)

> When we applied for quarters at some posts, we were allowed to choose
> the area we wanted to live in. That was no guarantee we'd get housing
> there but we did. Other places we had to take what was available but we
> never really had a "bad" place.

That's something at least! It's hard to know sometimes though. We didn't
realize the bar across the street was so ummm.... rowdy.. at times when we
bought this house (g).

>> others in the village but definitely avoid some like the bar patrons
>> (g). They've calmed down somewhat this year, the state must have
>> finally given them a warning about their liquor license.

> Always nice to know people where you live. We're getting to know more
> and more folks in and around the area. Good thing the bar is settling
> down; the threat of losing their license must have made them realise
> they needed to.

Yes, it's something we can't understand. In any situation like this (small
village with a bar on the main street), the bar owner has always kept his
patrons in line, so to speak.. knowing that families live nearby. He just
didn't care to do that, which is sad, but hopefully getting better now.

Take care,
Janis
