Ärende: Busy Weekend

We had a very busy and fun weekend.

Early this week, our son and his wife left Texas to drive back to
Maryland in his 1983 Land Rover diesel truck -- which was in a less than
perfect condition.

Then on Wednesday evening we got a phone call from Dave Sacerdote.  He
and his family had booked a room in downtown Baltimore to attend an
Anime convention, Otakon.  Dave had just found out that the Renaissance
hotel had cancelled their reservation -- which had been made at
convention prices a year ago.  Of course, we offered that the four of
them (the Sacerdotes and a friend of Lynn's) could stay with us for the
weekend.    They arrived Thursday afternoon.

We also had Michael come up.  I picked him up at a half-way point on
Friday.

We had a good time.  Dave and Maryanne spent some time touring in
Baltimore, some time just hanging out here.   Dave, Michael and I worked
on Michael's computer.  Something had clobbered one of his system files
and it would not boot.  In the end, Michael's computer got windows
reinstalled and after many back and forth connections using our
computers, got most of the updates needed to put it back into working
condition.  He did use our computer to read and reply to echo from Doc's
in the meantime.

It was almost like a picnic -- a variety of foods for tasting, lots of
chatting.  We had two outs.

One was to G&A, a Baltimore place that has been doing hot dogs and
hamburgers at the same location since 1927 (three generations).  They
had been featured on one of the Diners, Drive-ins and Dives shows on
Food Network.   The consensus was that they were worth the trip, but not
particularly special.  The server was typical Bal-mor -- except she was
flirting with the wrong guy (me) instead of the only single male in the
bunch.  The hot dogs were ok, but the polish sausages were better for
not much more money.  Michael and I shared a platter of three hamburger
sliders.  Again, ok but more done than either of us would like.

Another out was to Cheeburger-Cheeburger, a request from Lynn.  She
really likes the flavored shakes they offer.  The hamburgers were
decent, with a little bit of pink.  Michael and I both said "as rare as
you can make them", which seems to translate to "medium" for them.  The
fries were tasty, but not crisp.  The onion rings were very good, but
would have been better if the onions had been sliced bigger.

Our son did make it home on Sunday after a fairly arduous trip.
He'll spend about two weeks in Maryland before he goes back to Texas and
then will be deploying to the Mid-East in September.
