On another topic -- we have a large crab apple tree in our front yard.
It has started dropping apples.  The local critters seem to like them.
Not only have we seen chipmunks chowing down at all times of the day, we
have even had deer in our front yard.   A few days ago, about 5 pm, I
was walking back from across the road and spotted a doe.  I froze and
made like a tree, leaning on my car in the driveway.  She was nervous,
but eventually came up into the yard and started nibbling away.  Every
now and then she would look up as if to check that the "tree" had not
moved.  A short while later, two bucks came up and joined in the dinner.
They both had antlers in velvet, perhaps two to four points.  They did
not seem nervous at all, but just kept eating away without looking up.
Eventually someone walking down the other side of the street spooked the
doe, and they all left.   I suspect that I was no more than 10-20 yards
from them, and the person on the other side of the street would have
been no more than 30 yards.

Tonight the doe was back about 11 pm, no bucks though.  Another day, we
saw one of the bucks by himself in the late afternoon.

      Title: Roger's Cajun Spaghetti
 Categories: Pasta, Cajun
      Yield: 4 servings
 
    3/4    Stick butter
      2 lg Onions, chopped
      1    Green bell pepper, cored,
           -seeded, and
           -chopped
      1    Stalk celery, chopped
      4    Pods garlic, finely chopped
      2 cn Tomato sauce
     20 oz Canned Rotel tomatoes,
           -crusted
    1/2 cn Tomato paste
      1 cn Buttered, sliced mushrooms
  1 1/2 lb Fresh pure pork smoked
           -sausage
           -Tasso
           -salt (to taste)
           -red pepper (to taste)
           -black pepper (to taste)
      1 tb Romano cheese, grated
      1 pk Fresh mushrooms, chopped
      4 tb Cooking sherry
           -pasta, cooked
 
  In a black, cast-iron pot, melt the butter.  Add the onions,
  bell pepper, celery, and garlic.  Cook for 20 minutes, or until
  the onions have wilted.  Then add the tomato sauce, tomatoes, and
  tomato paste.  Stir and add the buttered mushrooms, sausage, and
  tasso.  Season to taste used salt, red pepper, and black pepper.
  Simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally. (The longer the tomato
  gravy cooks, the better it will taste.)  Add the romano cheese,
  fresh mushrooms, and cooking sherry.  Simmer for 10 minutes.
  
  Pour over cooked pasta and serve.
  
  NOTE:  Tasso is a highly seasoned, smoked pork.
