I just did a major stockup too.

I had wanted 5 kg each of Basmati and Jasmine rice but the
store was all out of both 5 and 10 kg bags. So I settled for a
huge 20 kg bag of Thai Jasmine for just $19.99. In my household
that's an 80 week supply!

I also picked up 10 kg each unbleached white, whole wheat and rye
flours. I've been reading about dramatically rising grain costs but
these were all $8.99 per bag, just $1 more than last time. I think a
large part of the rising wheat costs is actually a factor of the
declining US dollar. My bread will still cost just $0.40 per loaf
for the flour, less than $0.70 in total.

Other bulk purchases were 10 kg sugar (40 weeks worth of baking) and
500 g each of every kind of dried pea, bean and lentil in the store.
First batch cooked up was pot of Indian black lentils which is now
in the fridge waiting for inspiration to strike.

As I didn't buy any meat, cheese or fresh vegetables on this trip I
got away with $180 for staples.

Neekha has completely planned this year's egg hunt. A week ago she
drew a floorplan of the house and marked where the eggs would go
with little "X"s like a treasure map. Last night she plastered the
whole house with Post-It notes marked "X". In the morning the notes
come down and the eggs take their place. Lexi has been peeking so
she also drew up a fake map for her to spy on and hid the real one
in my bedroom! She IS organized.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Dukka (Mid East Spice)
 Categories: Mix, Spice, Egyptian, Nuts, Beans
      Yield: 1 servings

    125 g  sesame seeds
     75 g  hazelnuts or roasted
    Chick peas
     50 g  coriander seeds
     25 g  cumin seeds
      1 ts Salt
    1/2 ts Black peppercorns
      1 ts Dried wild thyme or mint

  This blend of spices with ground hazelnuts or roasted chick peas
  comes from Egypt. Serve with bread: dip this in olive oil and then
  into the dukka.

  Dry roast the sesame seeds until lightly browned. Remove from the
  pan. Roast the hazelnuts for about 5 minutes and remove their
  skins (chick peas do not need roasting further), then roast the
  coriander and cumin seeds until they darken. When everything has
  cooled, combine all the ingredients and pound or process to a
  coarse powder. The mixture will keep for 3 months stored in an
  airtight jar in a cool place.
