cs> I was saying that. Naw, thats a highway thing that just
cs> irks me when I see it. In fact, seeing more of it from
cs> idiots who think the wind tunnel behind will save them gas.

FH> It is a fact that drafting saves fuel. Look at the NASCAR races and
FH> you can see the effect. In relation to driving behind a semi truck,
FH> researchers have also proven that it saves fuel.

FH> In scaled wind-tunnel tests, driving 100 feet behind a semi at 55 mph
FH> will reduce the drag on your vehicle by 40%. This figure gets higher,
FH> the closer you get to the back of the truck. It tops out at a whopping
FH> 93% drag reduction at a distance of 2 feet.

FH> In actual road tests, with all their outside influences (IE: side
FH> winds, tire rolling resistance, vehicle weight) researchers gained 20%
FH> improvement in fuel milage at 55 mph driving 100 feet behind a semi. At
 FH> 10 feet, they saw a 45% improvement.

FH> 45% improvement! So, instead of getting only 30 mpg, they got 43.5
FH> mpg. That's quite a bit of improvement in my book. On a 10 gallon tank,
FH> instead of only going 300 miles, they can go 435 miles. That's enough
FH> to make it all the way to Grandma's house without having to stop for
 FH> fuel

All very true. I have also seen the "Myth Busters" program on that
subject.

Tailgating is a rather dangerous practice, as even with lightning
reactions, and and 100% attention, a change in speed by the truck can
result in impact with the rear of the truck. That can be avoided, and
maximum fuel economy obtained if the car drives in light contact with
the rear of the truck. Then any braking of the truck will only
increase the pressure at the contact point. As long as the car is
equipped with a decent bull-bar, no damage will result.

Even more fuel can be saved if the car is equipped with a grapnel
device which can be hooked onto the truck rear bumper and disconnected
from within the car. Then the car engine can be shut down, and the
driver can relax, read a book, sleep or watch the scenery. Hopefully
any passing cops will think the car is properly attached to the truck
by a legal towing A-frame, and will not investigate further.

It is important that the car driver wakes up and disconnects before a
truck stop, as truck drivers can get rather stroppy at times.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

      Title: Making Turtle Soup
 Categories: Soups, Info, Turtle
      Yield: 6 Servings

      1 Snapping Turtle

Any old soup recipe will work for (snapping) turtle soup. The main
problem with turtle soup is cleaning the turtle. You have to be
certain that every last speck of fat is removed from the meat before
cooking. This is not too difficult because the fat is between the
  skin and the flesh.

To butcher a turtle you start by chopping off the turtle's head. Be
careful because the head will still bite even after it is removed
from the body and the body will still crawl away after the head is
removed. Turtles don't die right away.

When the body stops trying to crawl away, dip it in boiling water and
scrape off the exterior layer of skin, including the shell. The
result will be a bright white carcus, compared to the muddy
  brown-green you started with.

Next step is to remove the shell. Cut along grove on each side
between the front and back legs. It is the narrowest part of the
shell. The tail, neck and all four legs are attached to the top of
the shell. Remove from shell and you have the bulk of the meat.
However, there will be some meat on the bottom shell and top shell.

It is at this point that you remove the fat. Just roll back the skin
and with a paring knife and your index finger scrape out the fat.

I learned about turtles from my parents who learned from their German
immigrant fathers. It has been told in family circles that my maternal
grandfather would catch snapping turtles by hand. I never saw him do
it because he was hit and killed by a truck when I was about nine
years old. It was a big loss for me because he was just starting to
teach me about turtles, wild mushrooms, dandelions and other natural
things. He made the greatest doughnuts I ever ate.

Good luck with your turtle soup. Just cook it long with lots of
vegetables and it will be good if you removed all of the fat. - Earl
