====================================================================
Hi Janis,

JK> Boy the more time goes by, the further behind I get with stuff it
JK> seems (grin) Well, I'm trying to play catch-up today.. then I want to
JK> get outside and plant some early peas :)

I know, and with Fido down for a couple of days, I'm behind again. I'll
catch up but be gone this week end and get behind again.

>> environment (g).. but I'll show it to you when you get here.. or maybe
>> I'll get it online when I finish the java version.. should be cool

JK> > And then Steve will see it, maybe beta test?

JK> Hehe :) Sure, no problem.. once I get it going.. I'll let you know
JK> when I have something worth testing going.. shouldn't be too long..

That is, if he wants to, and has the time to do so. We got a free
computer about 10 years ago when he was beta testing it. It never hit
the market but would have made a nice one for limited applications.

JK> I've got some code started, but darn life keeps getting in the way.
JK> Some of it enjoyable stuff, some of it just running around taking care
JK> of odds and ends :)

Isn't that the truth? Sounds like my life.

>> "serious" software and Ron's job (bg) I think it's cool though that
>> the home school community might benefit from it.

JK> > Hmm, he's not home schooled but I wonder if Robert would enjoy it.
JK> He's > 4 now but a pretty smart kid. He can sound out 3 letter

JK> It would be possible to do that if I wrote a version that used shapes
JK> and figures in the sets rather that sets of numbers..other than that,
JK> I think both the String Game and MiniComputers (that's the other game
JK> they want me to update) would be too involved for a 4 year old..
JK> because they are dealing with basic math that he wouldn't have been
JK> sections of the intersecting circles ... anyhow, I'll get back to you
 JK> on this

Sounds good to me. Got your freezer stocked so you won't have to cook
much while working on it?

JK> > nerve damage to the left hand, am not a touch typist.

JK> Sorry to hear about your left hand.. do you have Carpal Tunnel? I
JK> understand that can be very very painful. I never had time to take

No, it's from a shattered left elbow in 2001, before that, shattered
wrist in 1992, same time I broke the other wrist, not quite as bad.
Both wrists and the elbow have plates and screws in them; I carry a card
to let airport screeners know why I'm setting off their metal detectors.

JK> a typing course in High School.. I remember some funny things though
JK> that drove my guidance counselor a little buggy... I dropped chemistry
JK> and took Oil Painting one year and it was so neat :) I figured, I can

I took a semester of shop but specialised in jewelry design/making using
some of the big tools. (G)

JK> Latin on top of my 4 years of french as well, so I guess I would have
JK> had time for a typing course if I wasn't taking other things I liked

I had 3 years of Latin, the typing (at my parent's insistance) and all
the required stuff. Choir was my "for me" class as my folks wouldn't
let me take art.

>> When we drink coffee, we like it strong.. and the same with our tea ..

JK> > I'd just as soon skip the coffee; tea, I'm drinking stronger than I
JK> used > to. But it has to be sweet, no 2 ways about that point for me.

JK> I think we stopped putting sugar in our coffee about 25 years ago ...
JK> just 2% milk is all we put in our coffee.. We were still using Honey
JK> in our tea until recently though.. and even now we use it on
JK> occasion.. but not that often. Most times we drink our tea straight

I've GOT(!) to have some sweetener in my tea, especially if it's the
black tea. And, I can taste the difference between honey and sugar.

>> We like trying all kinds of teas though :) We really like Numi's
>> Chinese Breakfast Tea.. it's like a really good "lipton"..

JK> > That's a new one for me--is it a basic black tea? We prefer Tetly
 JK> to > Lipton; it's less bitter.

JK> It's basic black tea, yes.. very flavorful.. it's really good.

I may snag some from you and give it a try when we come up in July.

>> Yes, things will be in full swing :) We also decided to put the fridge
>> behind me across from the center-island instead of in the island.

JK> > Better to think of that now than later, after he gets it put in the
 JK> > island. (G)

JK> Oh yeah, tell me about it :) Things are moving though :) We ordered
JK> the Exhaust Hood for the Island.. that should be here in about a week
JK> or so.. (it's shipping from California) It's one that is made in
JK> Italy, it looks really nice.. Digital displays, up to 6 speed
JK> settings.. We ordered a ductless kit for it as well that is supposed
JK> to let us use it without requiring it to be vented outside.. Hope that
 JK> works as advertised (grin).

Sounds like you and Carol are both having remodeling fun.

Catch you later,
Ruth
