Besides Angel Food there is SHARE (Self Help And Resource Exchange) which does
their packages in "units" at a price wich varies from area to area. Each "unit"
contains meat, fresh fruits, vegetables, and staples. SHARE buyers purchase the
food from growers, brokers, and packaging plants. The food is not donated,
government surplus, or salvage.

Cost in this area is U$15/unit PLUS two hours of community service (overall).
Mowing your neighbour's yard, taking someone to the grocery store, etc. counts
the same as organised activities like Clean Street programs.

Retail value is ALWAYS over U$35 ... often more. Special meat and/cheese or
frozen foods units ar often available.

I prefer the SHARE program because I don't want to lie to the folks at Angel
Food and promise to be a good, church going, Xtian. Both programs are excellent
in aim and scope.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Manestra (Meat With Orzo)
 Categories: Greek, Pasta, Beef, Lamb/mutton
      Yield: 4 servings
 
      1 tb Oil
      1 lb Beef or lamb stew meat
      2    Onions; chopped
      1 c  Tomato sauce;
           -=OR=-
      1 tb Tomato paste
      1 ts Salt
    1/8 ts Pepper
    1/8 ts Cinnamon
      1 ts Spearmint flakes
      4 c  Boiling water
      1 c  Manestra (orzo)
      1 c  Grated cheese (Mizithra!)
 
  Heat oil in large saucepan and brown meat and onions for 10 minutes
  over medium heat.  Add tomato, seasonings, and 2 cups water.  Cover
  and simmer for 1 1/2 hours until meat is tender.
  
  Add remaining water and bring to a boil.  Add manestra.  Stir once or
  twice.  Simmer 20 minutes more.  Serve hot with grated cheese.
