That's simply not true. The American Chemical Society is the
certifying body for chemists, not an industrial lobbying group. One
is not a Professional Chemist merely by having a B.Sc. in chemistry
or the word "chemist" in your job title but by passing the ACS board
exams that test knowledge in the field. My dad took great pride in
his ACS membership as it gave him professional recognition and
status without a degree (his formal studies were interrupted by
WWII). He got certification after years of on the job training and
self study. (He also took pride in the fact that not every
university graduate got certified on the first attempt.) They also
rate and rank universities. Their monthly journal publishes a lot of
research.

Also not true. Try googling "irradiation+phyto nutrients" but
restrict your search to .edu sites to get scientific studies and
weed out the whack jobs like Adams. Don't bother with .gov sites if
you don't trust them but ignore the .com and .biz sites.

Blessington found that different wavelengths and intensities had
different results. In some instances the amounts of some phyto
nutrients actually increased with radiation. In most cases small
amounts were lost but smaller amounts than either cooking or storing
the product for 18 days between harvesting and testing.... a typical
time line for harvest, transport, sale, home storage and final
consumption.

In another study on vitamin C in various produce, radiation
destroyed 12-13% but storage and cooking destroyed 24-67% depending
on conditions and methods. Vitamin C is so fragile that merely
cutting lettuce or mashing potatoes decreases the amount of vitamin
C in the vegetables.

And vegetables, fruits and their juices are in fact no longer "living"
things the minute they're harvested or processed into juice, despite
his choice of words.
