Lexi would disapprove! [g] A month ago I had a long talk with Neekha
on nutrition and choices. Lexi was eavesdropping and understood most
of it, even though I got a bit technical. She said, "if it's not
good for big kids, it can't be good for little kids either." (Her
dad had been very indulgent to her with excessive candy and soda.)
She swore off pop, blue food and cheap candy and only has good
chocolate in small amounts for dessert and stuck to it.

Last week she came back from a birthday party, just starving. "They
had chips, cheesy corn puffs, pop, tropical punch, MacDonald's
happy meals, cake with blue icing and ice cream. I only ate two
nuggets and one ice cream." I asked her what she wanted after
listing off everything I had in the fridge and she picked grilled
steak, salad and a pear!

She does get lots of real fruit juice, ice cream and homemade baking
so she is not deprived. (We also have cool bendy straws for the
juice.) I have also let her know small amounts of junk food is OK if
you don't overdo it but she has sworn off completely and now
lectures other kids, like the two foster kids (who are back again).

She loves to help bake and is very proud of three pies (one for each
house) she made last week with help from Roslind and Neekha. She
learned to prick the crust with a fork, add flour to the berries,
the whole nine yards.

Lexi's favourite rehydrating, no constipation, fruit cocktail
cat: beverages, fruit, healthy
yield: 2

2 oz prune nectar
6 oz water
4 oz apple juice
1 squirt grenadine

Mix and serve 2/3 in a tall glass with ice and a "Taz" bendy straw
and 1/3 in a Princess sippy cup (no ice) for Charlee.
