Ärende: A visit to LemonGrass Restaurant in Binghamton NY
=========================================================
First, I am not a restaurant reviewer :) But I will try to let you know what
the restuarants here are like, or what our experiences have been like at
various places here :)

Ron and I have started visting various restaurants in the area in the hopes of
finding some neat ones by the time the picnic rolls around. We've been to some
already of course, but there are plenty we've thought of but haven't visited
yet.. so we'll be checking them out and I'll try to give you all a sense of
what to expect from them. So far, we haven't eaten food that would compare to
the Fin Chinese restaurant in Las Vegas at the Mirage Hotel.. :) :) but we keep
looking :) I guess that is not really a fair comparison.. but.. what can I
say.. that food was just soooo good :)

LemonGrass Restaurant is a small restaurant in strip mall near a
(non-impressive) Italian pizza place we'd visted previously.. I'll write that
one up later :) the LemonGrass restaurant's cuisine is described as:

>Our Cuisine is fresh and authentic. All of our meals are prepared from scratch
>using only the finest ingrediants by our highly-skilled asian chefs. We combin
> ingredients and cooking techniques from several cultures. Our menu offers
> popular dishes from many countries including THAILAND, VIETNAM, JAPAN,
> MALAYSIA, INDIA and KOREA. Our food is made with aromatic spices, fresh herbs
>and organic ingredients creating a healthy, unique and delicious experience in
> every dish.

We were greeted at the door a nice fellow, asking if we had a reservation.. we
didn't of course.. but I was glad to see that we were asked about that.. being
one of the things that always bothered me about dining in Louisville when we
lived there.. there were many restaurants in Louisville that didn't take
reservations, and so had incredible waiting periods for seating, and I couldn't
deal with that. The Lemongrass restaurant was no problem however, and seated us
right away..however the tables were very close to one another.. kind of a
pain.. I almost asked to be moved to another table :) I checked and the
LemonGrass had an additional room off the main dining room where additional
tables were located so obviously our group could be seated there if we reserved
the whole place <grin>.

I ordered Crispy Spring Rolls appetizer $5.95 and Ron ordered Japanese
Potstickers $5.95... both were very good. The spring rolls were delicated
encased in a delicate dough that you'd expect in a quality spring rolls, and
filled with asian vegetables and shredded pork. They sat in a porcelin spoon
of hot sauce which flavored the spring roll perfectly. As an appetizer, the
serving size was generous, with 4 spring rolls. Ron's order of Japenese
Potstickers a generous serving of 4 steamed potstickers, were served in a
soy/garlic/wine sauce with green onions. They were round, and pinched at the
top, not the oval type, and were delicious.

I ordered Vietnamese style roast duck with long green beans $16.95 (which is
Sautéed Roast Duck, Long Beans, Shredded Orange Zest and with Ginger in Light
Soy Sauce), and Ron ordered marinated salmon and eggplant steaks
$19.95 (which is Grilled marinated Salmon and Japanese Eggplant Steaks with
Green Herb Sauce Thai Basil, Mint, Cilantro and Lemon Zest). The Roast Duck was
surrounded by half-slices of navel oranges, and zest of orange as very very
thin strips of orange rind. In the corner of the dish was a temple of rice
covered with hot spicey lemongrass and orange strips. Duck skin covered with
hoisin sauce and plum sauce was scattered throughout, amongst the pieces of
duck breast. The greenbeans were marinated oriental spices as you'd expect ...
nothing special.. they were good however. Ron's salmon was covered with a
slightly pesto flavored sourcream that was not baked onto the salmon.. it was
freshly applied to the salmon after the baking. Excelent choice. I've made this
type of dish myself in the past and know that when the sourcream is baked, it
is totally wasted from the heat of the oven... (obviously even when combined
with pesto) :) The eggplant steaks were flavored with citrus and surprisingly
different. Quite a change from the usual treatment for eggplant.

As we were leaving the proprieter made sure he met us in the Lobby, I thought
that was nice.. He obviously noticed we were new customers. Hmm.. maybe he
thought I was cute? Or maybe he though Ron was cute? Oh no! Lol :) Darn,
there's that bad sense of humor again <grin>

Overall, I would rate the food at this restaurant as "interesting" because of
the combination of cusines.. and done so successfully... but I'd wait until I'd
checked a few more restaurants before recommending it :) There's a Thai
restaurant I'd like to visit .. :) There's also a Korean restaurant and an
Italian restaurant that we love to go to .. :)

Take care,
Janis
