Hi Janis,

>> gotten migraines before.. Ron gets them though.. very badly as a
>> matter of fact. He doesn't have any allergies so go figure.. just

JK> > I have them as well; they are no fun. From the time I start treating
 JK> it > aggressively until it's over, it's about 6 hours of misery. I've
JK> also > got allergies and asthma; misery loves company. (G)

JK> He's weird though since he's not allergic to anything according to
JK> allegy testing done on him. And certainly no asthma. He gets
JK> migraines from some food triggers though, like chocolate (I couldn't

I was tested about 20 years ago. Some of the things that set me off
allergy wise didn't react but I know I have trouble with them. Only
dust did but I know pollens and pets are triggers as well.

JK> imagine living with that - my daughter eats it so it doesn't bother

I couldn't imagine life without chocolate. It was hard avoiding it when
I was on radiation but I've come close tomaking up for it since. (G)

JK> her I guess), sun glare, some beers, some wines, that kind of thing..
JK> he hasn't had one in a while so that's good.

Those are well known triggers, as well as aged cheese.

JK> > I can imagine. (G) My son in law had 2 years of Air Force ROTC and
JK> was > commissioned into the Air Force but let go a couple of years ago
 JK> in a > major downsizing. He'd been enlisted for several years--and
JK> his dad was > also military, first Air Force, then Army.

JK> That's some military history in the family all in all :)

Yes, and that's just immediate family. David's sister was also in the
reserves for a few years.

JK> > So, now I should start seeding the canned tomatoes? (G)

JK> Lol - now, they oughta do that fer ya.. (g) unless it's different
JK> down there where you live :)

I've not really noticed; we've been buying the Hunt's organic and I
think they do have seeds.

JK> But did you notice how many of the seeds are gone from the canned
JK> tomatoes? They probably don't use tomatoes first with that many seeds,
JK> and secondly I'm sure the process they use in the canning leaves
JK> mostly the tomato pulp packed in tomato juice.

I get the petite cut or diced as a general rule; I use them in a number
of things besides sauce.

 JK> > called it "essence of dead skunk".  It is also a bit of an irritant;
JK> > that's why I ususally ran the stove vent fan.

JK> Just having gas in the house is enough to be noticable to me.. but
JK> it's the same with heating oil, and you can't get away from either
JK> here.. propane and heating oil :) Good thing the house is a drafty
JK> one, that's is saving grace.

Very true but you do burn more gas/oil by the same token. At the cost of
it these days, you're better off adding some insulation and vents.

>> > I use the recipe Steve's mom gave me; it's all bread crumbs. But,
>> mine, > unlike hers, are from the whole wheat bread I make. I save up

>> Ok.. if you bring them, then I won't make bread.. if not, it's no
JK> > I'll bring them; guess I ought to start making a list.

 JK> Good idea :)

It'll help me remember all I've got to bring up.

>> is here or when we want some. Using crusts is a good idea, I usually
>> use the whole loaf and toast it up..

JK> > It's one way to use the crusts which generally don't get eaten
JK> > otherwise. If, for some reason, the loaf doesn't turn out right,
JK> I'll > set it aside for crumbing and make another one for eating.

JK> Yup, know what you mean there.. :)

Sounds like you've had some "bricks" too. (G)

>> > thinking about having some seasoned ones on hand tho

>> I season mine since most of the time I'm using them for Italian
>> recipes.. Your mileage may vary (g).

JK> > I'll use mine for other things, like coating turkey breast cutlets
 JK> for > schnitzel.

JK> You make yours ahead of time obviously.. I always make them as I need

I make them whenever I've got a bag full of crusts--about every 2-3
months or so.

JK> them.. I think that's the difference.. if it's Italian cooking,
JK> they'll get the Italian seasonings, etc.. if not, then other
JK> seasonings go in, or none at all.. I usually have a loaf of homemade
JK> bread from the day before around, etc.. or I'll break down and use

With just the 2 of us, we don't go thru bread that fast. We used to use
more when the girls were home and I'd make school lunches for them.

JK> (horrors!) "SomeBody's Italian Bread Crumbs", but they're ALL so bad
JK> lately.. do you know they ALL got HFC in them? I couldn't believe it..
JK> that's why I started making my own breadcrumbs last year pretty much.

Whatever is this world coming to? HFCS in bread crumbs? (GAG!) I've
been making my own crumbs for about 30 years or so. Had to buy a couple
of times when we moved but not the last couple of moves. (G)

JK> > I'm not sure what part of Italy Steve's mom's family came from. I
JK> don't > know if she knows or not.

JK> Sometimes people don't know these kinds of things, it's true.. :)

But, Steve said that they did find out. I just didn't recall him saying
so.

JK> > Actually, I've never heard of her. Guess she's that forgettable. (G)

JK> Oh yeah, she definitely is (laugh) and that song was even MORE so :)
JK> It just cracks me up so much every time I think about it :) :)

Like Louden Wainwright III? His one and only hit was "Dead Skunk In the
MIddle Of the Road".
