You sure ought to have better tomatoes, earlier in the year.

I think chains are pretty consistent across the continent. Dave
seeks out the best of the local mom and pop outfits, many of which
can beat the chains. That would be true almost anywhere else too.
(I'd hate to live in a place where the local joints couldn't beat
the chains!) Having said that many of the chains do put out a decent
product, at a decent price.

time I'm in Edmonton.

They used to be good; they used real roast beef and they cost
substantially more than a burger at the burger places. I'm talking
circa 1972 here, when a friend of mine managed one. Their totally
mild horseradish sauce sucked though, even then. I see on the
corporate web site that the founders sold out to a huge corporation
in 1993. I wonder if they went down hill before or after 1993?

Again with the wimpy horseradish! What's up with that?....

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Horseradish Roast Beef Special
 Categories: Beef, Sandwiches
      Yield: 4 Servings

    HORSERADISH SPREAD:
    1/2 c  dairy sour cream
    1/4 ts salt
    1/8 ts pepper
      1 TB country-style Dijon mustard
      1 ts prepared horseradish
    SANDWICH:
    1/4 c  butter; softened
    1/2 ts minced fresh garlic
      8 sl sourdough bread
     12 sl roast beef
      8 sl ripe tomato
     12 sl cucumber

  In small bowl stir together all spread ingredients. In small bowl
  stir together butter and garlic. Spread 1 side of each slice of
  bread with garlic butter. Place on cookie sheet. Broil 5 to 6"
  from heat for 3 to 4 minutes or until bread is toasted.

  To assemble each sandwich layer 1 slice bread with 3 slices roast
  beef, 2 slices tomato and 3 slices cucumber. Spoon about 2
  tablespoons spread over cucumbers. Top with 1 slice bread.
