For my birthday today Shirley and I skipped church and left 
for Rochester, well Henrietta, to arrive at the Cantonese 
Restaurant just before 11:30.  That's when they started serving 
Dim Sum.  The first hour or hour and a half is the best time to
be there.   I can describe the experience, but not the food...
never were sure what we were eating.

We beat the crowd and were seated at a nice table for two.  
A waitress left our empty check on the table, and right away
a young server stopped her cart at our table.  She had three
different snacks, or hors deurves, or appetizers -- whatever
the right term is.  

Our first choice was a small dish with three big oval shaped
deep fried [I guess] things, with a filling of pork and shrimp.
The crust was 1/4" thick, and inside that was another layer of
something sticky and sweetish, and then the filling.   We have 
no idea what it actually was, because we could not understand
the server's  accent.   But boy, was that thingy good.  

We just kept making choices, with little or no idea what we 
were getting.   But it made no difference, everything was 
good.  Almost every dish we chose had three items on it.  
I don't know why that is, but almost everywhere we have had 
Dim Sum the choices come in threes... tough to share. [g]  
Today only the steamed shrimp [in a translucent edible "bag"] 
didn't.  Its steam basket held four.

Every time we chose a dish from a passing trolley the server
would draw a little circle on our check in one of four panels,
depending on the price of the dish.  When we last had Dim Sum,
in Toronto years ago, they kept track by the number and size 
of the plates.

I won't attempt to describe the things we had, because 
obviously I can't do a good job, and we never knew the names
of the marvelous delicacies.    We had our fill of tasty 
steamed, fried, or baked delights, about 7 0r 8 different 
treats, and the check was only $21 plus tax.  And we were
stuffed.

If you have had Dim Sum yourself you knew about what I 
described.  If you never had it, take advantage of the first
chance you get.  It is a delightful experience.

My only regret is that they had no chicken feet.  I was looking 
forward to them again.
