Actually part of it is still open for the military.  The reserves use it
for training.  But, now there's a federal prison and other facilities on
the post as well.  Steve mentioned a url for it but I don't recall what
it is (Devens.com, maybe?); he will probably supply it when he reads
this message.

So what did you have at Benning that was so memorable? I think our most
"interesting" set of quarters was the temps we had in Frankfurt.  It was
basically half of the "attic" of a building, former maid's quarters with
8 bed rooms, a small kitchen, separate bath and toilet rooms, etc.  All
the ceilings had a sharp slope to them with dormer type windows.  The
kitchen was small, poorly lit and not nearly enough room for work.  One
person could work semi comfortably, add another person and it was
cramped. It was about the size of the kitchen we have here but the sharp
slope of the wall on one side cut into head space.
