=================
Hi Micheal,

RH> a group of former members has played, calling itself the Symphonitta
RH> (or some spelling like that). I guess they're doing fairly well
RH> overall from what I've read about them.

ML> Artistically maybe: financially I kind of doubt it. I was looking
ML> at the Tulsa Symphony (or whatever they now call it), which did
ML> the same thing. It's suffering in the cash flow department as well,
ML> and though some of my friends who play in the orchestra have
ML> encouraged me to go take a look, I somehow doubt it would be worth it.

Doesn't sound that promising. In HI, the Honolulu symphony was always
in financial trouble too. I know, it costs a lot to pay everybody and
the audience for that type of music is not what it used to be. Sad. We
probably could go to some concerts but just haven't really gotten into
it. We did hear the Tucson Symphony in Sierra Vista shortly after we
moved there in 93 and enjoyed it. We tried to get the grils to go with
us but they weren't interested, and, since it was Valentine's Day, they
let us have a "date". I suspect Rachel, and probably Deborah as well,
would enjoy the music now. PDQ Bach's "1712 Overture" gave them an
appreciation for classical music. BTW, Rachel called last night--we are
going to have a grand daughter in the fall.

RH> you still book indexing as a source of extra income?
ML> Have another one coming in tomorrow.
RH> Hopefully on an interesting subject. The nice thing about that is
RH> that you can take the job with you.

ML> Indeed, as long as this crappy lappy holds up. I have .pdfs of
ML> the proofs of the aforementioned book - about data modeling, a
ML> real snoozer - with me right now.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Is that the character from "Star Trek,
Next Generation" trying his hand in the fashion world? (G)

-=> Ruth Haffly said to Jim White <=-

RH> Sounds good. My all time favorite combo is dark chocolate and mint.
RH> When we were in Germany, I could get a Ritter Sport candy bar of dark
RH> chocolate and a mint creme filling. I've not been able to find them

ML> Chocolate and mint elicit strong opinions both ways. I was fond of
ML> the combo since the first time I had it at Gifford's in Washington
ML> about fifty years ago; got a little tired of it for a while, but
ML> now I'm back in the swing of things, relishing either the memories
ML> or the realities of Mint Milanos, Salernos, and whatever the Girl
ML> Scout version used to be called. Also Andes Candies.

Girl Scout thing is called "Thin Mints". I've always enjoyed the combo
but haven't had it a a lot over the years. It's nothing I could get
tired of but I've been disappointed a few times. The company that puts
out the chocolate orange each year around Christmas has also done a
peppermint and milk chocolate "orange". I got one a couple of years ago
but probably won't again. It's milk chocolate; the peppermint is
overpoweringly strong when you open it, then dissapates fast; and it
wasn't that great a quality chocolate. The initial aroma is like
sniffing a bottle of peppermint extract. (G)

Years ago, I saw a recipe for mint covered brownies. Basically you made
a pan of brownies and, as soon as they got out of the oven, put York
Peppermint Patties all over the top. Wait a minute or so to let them
soften, then spread to cover. I've thought about making it different
times but just never have--yet. One day I will do so and see how good
or bad it is.

Now that does look like I will do it sooner, rather than later. I might
dust the top with crushed peppermint candies too.

Another chocolate int combo that I do fairly often is to either use mint
choc. chips or mint extract instead of vanilla when making choc. chip
cookies. The extract gives it that hint of "What's so differnet but
good about these cookies?" teaser.

Catch you later,
