Hi Janis,

>> Check online if all else fails.. maybe if you can find the part, you
>> can bring it to the repair shop.. or point them to the site. I was

JK> > I am; I'm "talking" to someone about it. I have the impression that
JK> the > repair man doesn't "do" on line.

JK> Ah.. perhaps you can see if your repairman will accept you buying the
JK> part online then.. might work out.

I'll call him Monday to let him know I've got a handle on the parts and
a price.

>> <grin>.. but it works now instead of laying around "dead" <grin>.

JK> > A $10. investment sure saved you big time!

JK> Yeah, it was tricky getting it to work, but I figured I had nothing
 JK> really to lose :)

True, and if you've the time and patience, it's worth the try.

>> Your Pfaff sounds about as old as my poor Athena, but they sure don't

JK> > Is that the Athena 2000 (or something like that) Singer sold in the
JK> mid > 70s? I was looking at it but my mom gave me her Futura 2
JK> > somewhat used.) until I got the Pfaff.

JK> Yes, that's the one.. the Athena 2000.. I probably bought it in about
JK> 1979 or something.. What a great machine that was :) I made all the
JK> kids clothes plus a bunch for myself :)

I made quite a bit of clothes for the girls, me (and some for) Steve
over the years. Rachel's wedding dress (and the other girl's dresses)
were made on the Pfaff; I've also done a lot of other sewing--Robert's
nursery, lots of home dec for us over the years, a lot of baby quilts,
etc on it.

>> That would be handy :) Does that model you have download designs?

JK> > We can download them off the internet onto memory cards and then
JK> plug > those into the machine. Lots of bells and whistles with this

 JK> Super :)

A lot of fun things but more expensive if something goes wrong as
it's still a fairly new machine.

>> matters so much.. :) But Gentoo can be a little different in where it
>> "puts" packages, and how you do the updates, etc.

JK> > OK, Steve likes Fedora and Red Hat.

JK> I've never run Fedora but I'm familiar with it. I did run RedHat
JK> before switching to Gentoo.. I think that was just about when RedHat
JK> came out with Fedora, IIRC. Linux is just so stable, I love it.

Yes but now something needs tweaking on my system so I can "talk to"
some web pages. He will check it out for me.

>> of Jan. after the holidays :) :) Still true :) We did the same this

JK> > And how old is he now? (G)

JK> Eh.. he's getting there Lol.. but the real kicker is my daughter, "the
JK> baby" ... in her thirties .. STILL can't get used to that idea :)

My older one will be 30 this year, younger one will be 28. But this
year also, both my parents and my in laws have their baby turn 50.

>> You may want to add some salt and pepper to that recipe at the end, I

JK> > I use black pepper; we grind it fresh (actually a peppercorn blend
JK> is in > the grinder now). I don't bother adding salt to a lot of my

JK> Sounds like my pepper grinder - I usually use a blend as well. Did you
JK> see those disposable pepper corn grinders? They look handy, but my
 JK> pepper grinder is great..

The disposable ones are good when we pack out and have to live in the
quarters for a while longer or move in before we get our stuff. We've
bought them for that, or Steve has from time to time when he goes TDY
(Temporary Duty) and cooks for himself. Usually he will leave it at
the place as a donation to the kitchen.

JK> > most everything has salt added already. Usually the spicing takes
JK> care > of the need to add extra salt. I will use it in bread making
 JK> as it
JK> > helps control the yeast.

JK> Yep, know what you mean.. we're about the same here.

Sounds like it--sister! (G)

>> Here's my recipe for Marina, it's very similar to what you do :)

 JK> > Enough to float a boat? I want a marinara, not a marina. (G)

JK> <Laugh>.. I always have sauce in my fridge.. of some type <grin>. For
JK> quick pizza's, pasta.. that kind of thing.. when I make Pasta e
JK> Fagioli, I use a scoop of sauce in it (not too much) instead of tomato
JK> paste.. or when I make Roast Beef hash, I add it as well :)

I should keep more in the fridge than I do; mine is full of flours,
rices, etc as well. (G)

 JK> ========= Pasta e Fagioli:  Bean soup with Macaroni=========

This is one of Steve's favorites.

 JK> 2 tablespoons olive oil
 JK> 1 small onion
 JK> 1 stalk celery
JK> 4 slices bacon, or 1/4 cup prosciutto 1 clove garlic
 JK> 1 small carrot
JK> 1 can white cannellini beans

His mom made an easy one when we were down for Thanksgiving--but used
canned pork & beans. Said the recipe came from (I think she said) her
mom. You could definately tell the taste of the canned beans in it.
