MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Aida's Beans (Habichuelas Guisadas)
 Categories: Beans, Stews, Caribbean, Sausage, Potatoes
      Yield: 4 Servings
 
      8 oz Can tomato sauce
      3 tb Aida's Sofrito
      1 tb Adobo
      1 ts Aida's Sazon
      1 ts Aida's Spanish Oregano
    1/2 c  Stuffed green olives
      2 cn Beans (kidney, garbanzo or
           Black)
      2 c  Quartered or chunk peeled
           Potatoes
    1/2 c  Diced hard salami or
           Pepperoni*
 
  In large saucepan (olla), add tomato sauce, Aida's Seasonings:
  Sofrito, adobo, sazon, Spanish Oregano, and olives.  You may also
  add salami or pepperoni at this point.   Saute 2-3 minutes.  Add
  beans (do not drain), and cook for 10 minutes over medium-low
  flame.  Add water if beans have reduced too much, about 1/2-1 cup.
  
  Add potatoes and continue to cook over medium-low flame for 20-30
  minutes or until potatoes are tender.  Stir from time to time to
  keep the beans from sticking to the bottom of the saucepan.  Taste
  and use additional Aida's Seasoning if needed. Sometimes I add
  Aida's Adobo and Aida's Sazon at this point.  Also if beans are
  reducing you may add a little more water.
  
  The consistency should not be as thick as stew, but not soupy
  either.
  
  Serve over white rice!
  
  A wonderful dish with grilled steak, pork, or chicken when
  prepared with Aida's Steak Rub or Aida's Pork & Poultry.
  
  *Traditional Puerto Rican cooking uses Tocino (salted pork fat
  back), Salchicha (hard salami), and Jamon (smoked cooking ham).  I
  love these items, but they are high in fat and sodium, so we have
  just omitted them from our recipes.  I believe that our rice is
  just as flavorful whithout them, but feel free to add 1/4-1/2 cup
  diced Tonico, Salichicha, or Jamon to the Arroz Junto or
  Habichuelas Guisadas.
