Hi Janis,

JK> > No, not if you are brought up with them. The only pasta my mom kept
JK> on > hand was spaghetti and elbows.

JK> Sounds like Ron's mom - but for her, it was thin spaghetti - :) Very
JK> plain sauce (really reduced tomatoes was more what it was) and thin
JK> spaghetti, so I understand what you mean.

My mom did a meat sauce and used Mueller's pasta--or the store eqaul of
it. I can remember having to boil that pasta for a long time (15
minutes or so) vs the 7-9 that the whole wheat pasta I buy genereally
takes. It's not the 2-3 minutes fresh pasta takes but it's easier on my
wrists.

JK> even > heard of) Pasta e Fagioli until I met Steve; I don't know if
 JK> he's ever > had Pasta e Broccoli.

JK> Ah :) Well, now I know better (smile) It's a great dinner for a cold
JK> october night or cold spring night when fresh broccoli is in season..
JK> it's like a soup, but I think I mentioned it to you before... my kids
JK> used to call it "suck up macaroni" because they used to suck the sauce
JK> through the ziti macaroni as if the ziti were a straw? and of course
JK> they'd leave the broccoli behind haha... which I never minded because
JK> all the "healthiness" was in the soup at that point.. and they'd
JK> unwittingly eat some of the broccoli anyway (g).

You did mention it; I got a giggle out of the name then, and again now.
Family names for foods can be quite unique, as well as descriptive. (G)

>> :) And continuing the tradition.. At my daughter's insistence, I
>> included in my 2 year old grandson birthday "pile" a collection of
>> "cooking tools" from the Montessori School Services - they are sooo
>> neat :) These are real cooking tools, just "child size" and safe for

JK> > Sounds good. Rachel got Robert a set of mini "stainless steel" pots
JK> and > pans for Christmas last year. I was with her when she bought
JK> them; she > said something about him having better cookware than she
 JK> did. Little

 JK> haha.. doesn't that just sound right :) :)

We even got it in the same store where she got Robert's set. (G)

JK> > did she know that in a day or so she would open a big box and find a
JK> > brand new set of stainless steel cookware for her use. (G) Deborah
JK> > contributed a couple of cast iron fry pans to the cause as well so
JK> > Rachel now has a decent set of cookware.

JK> Aw, that is really nice :)

She had been using a make do, patch together set ever since she got
married, 11 years ago. I figured it was about time she had a nice set;
Steve and Deborah were willing to go along with my idea. I guess Deborah
had been thinking along the same lines so was willing to get the fry
pans to round it out.

JK> > The Montessori set sounds like
JK> > it would be a nice addition to Robert's set--did you order it on
 JK> line or > where?

JK> Yes, I ordered it online... I have a catalog from them now, though (I
JK> guess they figure I'm a serious buyer since I've bought a number of
JK> things from them over the course of a few years for the kids.. I
JK> usually purchase for the boys by the age I think they are "playing at"
JK> pretty much, not so much their actual age.. My daughter is very
JK> helpful with that of course.

Moms usually are pretty good about making suggestions for their kids. I
used to do it with my 2 and Rachel has with Robert. A year ago last
November, we sent money for a Big Wheel for his birthday. She took him
shopping and he fell in love with a tricycle. So, she got that instead
but let us know. We had no problem with that substitution. I saw a
Target flyer about the same time for a tent, sleeping bag and other
"camping" gear-all for indoor use and sent her the money (and the ad) to
pick it up. It made a big hit with him.

JK> Anyway, I believe the page I went to was www.montesoriservices.com.
JK> If you have trouble finding anything there, let me know and I'll look
JK> further in my email file. That is the address that is listed on the
JK> catalog they sent me, and it's sitting here in front of me.

I copied it and will check it out in the next few days. If nothing else,
I can look at the catalog when we come up. BTW, slight change in plans
for the picnic week end. We will be leaving on Sunday instead of
Monday. We're going a different way back to Savannah that takes us away
form the Baltimore/DC traffic and thru Charlotte, NC. When we found the
routing, we called some friends in Charlotte so we will be spending some
time with them before going the last bit to Savannah.

JK> Sorry I lost this message in the "pile" for a bit :)

No problem, something is wonky with the system. I've used the time nt
reading Fido to cut out stuff for the new baby. Still, would rather the
system got working again; I miss the day to day chatter.

Catch you later,
