I agree. Don't tell Aura I said this but Haitian Barbancourt 5 star
is as good as her beloved Dominican Ron Barcelo Imperial (i.e. tied
for first place as the best rum I have ever tasted) and it is a
sipping rum.

I doubt it very much.

Oh yes indeed.

I hoarded Aura's gift bottle of Ron Barcelo for years until my step
son Ray's wedding. It was served neat to a select few and with
optional ice and water only. One whiskey swilling cowboy BIL asked
where the coke was and I told him it was at the convenience store,
the one next to the liquor store that sold Captain Morgan's and he
could go get some of each if he wanted to. He got the point and shut
up. He also didn't get seconds.

I like daiquiris and rum cocktails too but would never use super
premium top shelf rum for them.

      2 oz Scarlet Ibis rum
    3/4 oz Carpano Antica Formula
           Vermouth
    1/4 oz Yellow Chartreuse
    1/4 oz Benedictine
      2 ds Peychaud's bitters
 
  This original cocktail from the Manhattan bar Death & Co. uses
  Scarlet Ibis rum from Trinidad; Santa Teresa 1796 rum from Venezuela
  is a suitable replacement.
  
  Combine ingredients in a mixing glass. Fill with ice, stir well and
  strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
