That was one of the first questions that I asked when I found that I had the
device. Back in the "old" days - a few years ago - when the pacemakers were not
nearly so sophisticated and many of the microwaves were not nearly so well
shielded there was some danger.

They told me that my pacemaker will stand a quick trip through a "standard"
metal detector arch at an airport or courthouse - but, since it will set off
the alarm - why take the chance. And definitely not to allow the hand-held wand
within 8 inches of the device.

           - toaster
      3 tb Good-quality wine vinegar;
           - to taste
           Toasted sesame seeds for
           - garnish (opt)

Like a good mole, this stew improves as it sits. If you can,
make it the day before you plan to eat it. Serve with roasted
potatoes or rice and warm corn tortillas.

Heat 1/4 cup of the olive oil in a large skillet over high
heat. Working in batches, add the meat cubes and brown on
all sides, sprinkling them with salt and pepper as you turn
them, about 8 to 10 minutes for each batch. As each batch is
ready, transfer it to a plate.

Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil in a Dutch oven
over medium heat. Add the onions and pancetta, if using,
and cook until the onions are softened, about 8 minutes.

Add the garlic and spices and cook for a few minutes, mixing
  well.

Add the meat to the pot, as well as the tomatoes and enough
stock to just cover the meat. Mix well, reduce the heat to
very low, cover and simmer slowly, turning the meat
occasionally, until the meat is almost tender, 1 1/2 to
  2 hours.

Grind the almonds, raisins, chocolate and bread in a food
  processor.

Using a large spoon, skim the excess fat from the surface
of the stew. Add the almond-raisin-chocolate mixture to the
stew, stir well, cover and cook for 30 minutes longer,
stirring from time to time to prevent scorching.

Adjust seasoning, adding salt, pepper and cinnamon as needed.
Stir in a few tablespoons of vinegar. Taste the stew and
then taste the wine. Add a bit more vinegar if the stew is
too sweet and flattens the wine.

Spoon onto warm plates and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds
  if you like.
