Hi Janis,

>> CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS MESSAGE <<

>> him now (the baby is about 20 months old :) )

 JK> > Fun age!

 JK> Oh yeah it is!

Keeping up after him is the fun part. Rachel was that age when her
sister was born; it's a wonder I got anything done for a while.

JK> > Be sure you get the flame retardant flannel for pjs.

JK> Yep, it is. Another set I'm making for him is going to be made of
JK> fleece.. not real heavy, but a decent weight for pj's.

And if he kicks off covers, they will keep him warm.

JK> > We never expected the mother board on the Pfaff to die but figured
JK> it > had to do with the flakey power in HI. First thing we bought
 JK> after
JK> > getting the new machine was an UPS; I run all my machines off it
JK> now, > even the mechanical serger.

JK> Brown-outs and such can have an effect on electronics, it's true..
JK> I've got my machines in a ups as well - It seems over here, the sun
JK> can be shining, and no bad weather in sight, and the power will go out

Must be raining over the Catskills--watering the hay crops there.

>> Makes sense.. I bought this pepper grinder in Louisville, KY when we

 JK> > There's a kitchen ware outlet store about 20 minutes from us; we've
JK> hit > it up quite often since we've been here. Visited the one in
JK> > (closer) but it's retail, high quality stuff--drool items right now.

JK> Oh I hate that hahaha. My daughter and family live in Ithaca NY now,
JK> and they have the most incredible "kitchen store". So much great
JK> stuff, packed in this little store, you can barely walk in it..

Sounds like a fun one to visit. I went to a hobby/craft store like that
in Berlin a few times.

JK> trouble there is it's very
JK> overpriced.. everything in Ithaca costs a fortune it seems. I don't

You're paying for the colleges there. (G)

JK> think there's one here in Binghamton.. Lately I've been buying more

Check the malls.

 JK> things online, though.

I don't do that much on line; it's more fun to explore things like that
"for real".

JK> > Sometimes we've found things in the outlet store not available in
JK> town > and they're open to 9 vs 6 for the in town one. Yes, I always
JK> look for > kitchen ware stores wherever we move to.

 JK> Same here :)

Same with fabric stores and natural foods places. Yellow pages in the
place we're staying at..................

>> read somewhere at the time that the bulk of the population in
>> Louisville liked eating "out" more than in any other cities <grin>

 JK> > Interesting.

JK> It was, and I could never figure it out.. You'd go to eat out and the
JK> lines to get into _any_ restaurant there were always so long. Very few
JK> of them took reservations either <grin>.

Didn't anybody cook at home? (G)

JK> > We found a restaurant supply place open to the public when
JK> > we were in HI. Had a whole lot we could have gotten (G) but settled
JK> on > some neccessary things. I have (because of it, and Alton Brown)
JK> > separate cutting boards for meat & fruit/veggies, both large and
JK> small > size. I also have a couple of wooden cutting boards for
 JK> breads.

 JK> I'm more of a lazy cook I guess <grin>. Well, I have butcher-block
JK> counters on two parts of my center island so that's where I do most of
JK> the chopping/cutting, etc. We're going to get the kitchen finished
JK> soon, we hope and then we'll be replacing those butcher block counters
JK> with marble.. should be nice. I hope it's nice <laugh>. We already
JK> bought the marble so that part is a done deal <grin>.

We have to take whatever the Army gives us for housing on post--and keep
it in decent shape. The place we arein now was built in spring/summer
2006 so we've got to make sure the counter tops stay looking decent.
They're laminate so cutting boards are a must. And the kitchen is way
too small for an island.

 JK> > Either that or very close cousins.  If we get up to the Catskills;
JK> maybe > we can arrainge a get together.

JK> That would be great :)

Have to see what comes up in the next few months.

>>>> Here's my recipe for Marina, it's very similar to what you do :)
>>> > Enough to float a boat? I want a marinara, not a marina. (G)
>>> <Laugh>.. I always have sauce in my fridge.. of some type <grin>. For

JK> JUST caught that typo haha.. I must have been wearing my contacts too
JK> often last week Lol.. when I wear them, I can't read for beans :)

Thought you would enjoy it once you caught it.

Catch you later,
