I know the look, and the gambit.  My dad's cousin had a cat named Fuss who
used to do something similar.  He'd get into one person's lap at the dinner
table, and work his way around until he found someone who would a) pet him
and b)possibly feed him.  It also had to be the right lap.

Around here it's more likely to be violets and clover.  The clover attracts
jackrabbits. I call the current bunch Stew, Fricassee, Haas and Pfeffer. 
Last year's were Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail and Peter. They're all full grown as
my cat nailed the babies.
