I'd dearly like to be a rich gourmet, too. It's a little
frustrating not to be one.

Luckily, I have a body of rich gourmet friends, with whom I
am planning to dine upon

  Cold Platter w/ spicy duck feet and drunken chicken
  Turtle Soup
  Dragon and Phoenix w/ soy sauce squab  and salt and pepper eel
  Spicy poached ginger and scallion tripe
  Sea Conch with sauteed yellow chives
  Braised Rabbit
  Spicy hollow greens
  Tenderloin of beef with asparagus and black mushrooms
  Lei Foon noodles w/ roast duck
  Almond Agar pudding with fruit compote

at some time in the not too distant future. A report will
follow. I will within a week or two of this event be dining
with some poor gourmet friends on vast slabs of roast beef
at Bernie's Depot. A report will follow.

Not noticing every little nuance is not not fully appreciating.
I think I get good value out of, say, going to an art museum or
watching a baseball game, even though I don't catch all the
visual intricacies of either and in fact have a hard time seeing
a baseball in flight at all.

Indeed. I tend to shoot close to 100 for nine holes.

You perhaps misapprehend. One will settle for "less than best."
But - and I don't think you differ that much from me on this -
one will not settle for "bad."

     Title: Chicken Pot Pie
Categories: Penndutch Chicken
  Servings:  1

      1 ea Chicken                             4 ea Potato
      3 ea Onion                               1 x  Salt & pepper
      1 x  *pastry

  Wash, clean and cut chicken into individual portions. Place a layer of
  chicken in the bottom of a large iron kettle and cover with thick
  slices of raw potato, then with slices of onion and salt & pepper.
  Roll dough out rather thick and cut in 2 inch squares and place on top
  of onion. Continue until kettle is filled having the top layer of pie
  dough. Add water to cover contents halfway. Cover kettle tightly and
  cook over a low flame until chicken is tender.
