Hi Janis,

>> CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS MESSAGE <<

>> that one in when I bought the Athena :)

 JK> > I had a Stylist 514 for starters, then a Futura 2. Got a used
JK> Stylist > 534 (with the free arm) to take for sewing classes, quilting

JK> Yeah, mine had the free-arm as well.. don't remember the model number

That one was built like a tank! It was mostly metal and weighed a ton!

JK> though :) I remember I started sewing on my grandmother's singer that
JK> had a peddle :) My grandfather worked for Singer, and he'd put an
JK> electric motor on it.. it was the nicest machine :) It kind of
 JK> forced
JK> you to understand how the machine worked though. When I bought that
JK> Stylist though, I was in heaven (g)..

Smart going. My mom had a 1950 model Singer I did my first sewing on.
She messed with the tension in the time when you weren't supposed to and
it never sewed well after that. Traded it for the Futura II she gave me,
then got a more basic model she doesn't use now. (It's too far buried
under other stuff to rasonably access.)

JK> > while the Pfaff was in the shop, etc just before we went to HI. It
JK> was > so heavy I bought a Brother 1080 instead & sold the other.

JK> I can understand that. Singer used to be so great with trade-ins in
JK> the old days.. They don't do that anymore that I've found.

Sigh!

JK> > The continous bobbin is a handy feature of the XL5000. All of my
JK> other > machines I have to take the bobbin out to wind it. If I'l
 JK> doing a big

JK> Yep, that is the one feature I always LOVED about the Athena.. that
JK> coninuous bobbin :) I'm glad they continued it with your machine. I
JK> was surprised they didn't with the CE series :(

JK> > project with one color bobbin, I'll wind several before starting.
JK> I've > also got a Side Winder so I can wind with another spool of
 JK> maybe a
JK> > different color without unthreading the current set up.

 JK> Handy :)

Saves a lot of time when I'm pushed. It's either battery operated or an
AC adaptor so I could bring it into the kitchen and wind bobbins while
working on supper.

>> Sounds good.. :) Did I see that you've had another grandchild born?
>> Neat :) God Bless all of you :)

JK> > Thanks; Audrey Elaine Walton was born on April 13. She joined big

 JK> That's wonderful.. beautiful name :)

Pretty little girl too. I'm back from my cooking/cleaning job there.
Rachel's house is much larger than ours but doesn't have striking
clocks. We've got a small house with 3 striking clocks but no kid noise.
She also has a gas stove; I'd gladly trade this electic one for it. (G)

>> We went to Ithaca today and I was able to find a spaghetti attachment
>> for my Atlas macaroni machine - I've been looking for that for ages :)

JK> > Finally! Just remember that the pasta has to be rolled several times
JK> > before you try to cut it. I'd like to make more pasta than we've

JK> Yes, just pass it through the rollers as you increase the tightness of
JK> the presser.. I used setting 4 for the first roller, then used the
JK> new spaghetti attachment.. came out so perfect :)

Great!

JK> > but it seems like something else is always taking the time away from
JK> > doing it. Plus, my longer arms to "catch" the pasta" are busy too.
JK> Maybe > once we both finish school..........................

JK> Mostly I have to catch mine before my puppies do hahaha Seriously, I
JK> have it attached to the smaller center-island counter top in the back
JK> of the kitchen. the spaghetti just falls to the counter, so I can
JK> catch it with my other hand.

Ours fits onto our KA mixer--don't have enough counter space to set it
at one end and guide fresh pasta onto a counter. Last time we made it,
Steve rolled & cut, gave it to me & I set it on the top of the freezer
or the table to dry.

>> picked up two really pretty dresses on a lark (smile)

JK> > Good! you have to treat yourself every once in a while. Something
JK> nice > to wear to the next doctor's check up?

JK> Yes, it's just about warm enough for them now :)

And to think about the garden? My dad is talking of several corn plants
in the ground and probably tomatoes in containers as his only garden
this year.

>> [broth]

>> Lately all the chicken bones from roast chicken go into that
>> tomoto-chicken bone stock I mentioned to you, from when I saw that
>> diners, dives and drive-ins gravy. It's Ron's favorite :)

JK> > We go on fits and spurts as to where ours goes. I like to cook rice
JK> in > poultry stock--gives it a nice flavor. Just have to make sure
I'm JK> not > planning beef fried rice with left overs. (G)

JK> Ron's favorite for rice is just butter and salt. I do often use
 JK> chicken stock though.

The added flavor the stock gives is so nice. Especially if it's a home
made stock. (G)
