RU NUTZ!?!?!?! We are talking about the military form of bureaucracy here.
There is very little else so hide-bound and unthinking. As I refused to give up
my little knife to be subsequently destroyed, Georgia and I went to the museum
across the parking lot where I told the lady at the counter that they were
missing a bet - and some funds - by not setting up a service similar to a "hat
check" where visitors to the ship could check nail clippers, embroidery
scissors, tiny knives, etc. and reclaim them after a tour of the old boat,
paying either a set fee or leaving a gratuity (which would probably make them
more money).

Dunno if they ever did it as I have not gone back. But, like most ideas which
make sense but are from an outside source -- probably not.

It was the newest I could find.

Back in the 1980s, just as an experiment I made a .22 calibre "belly gun" which
fit inside a standard Storm King (Zippo knock-off) lighter. It was, in the
first model, a single shot piece. The Mark II version had a reloading mechanism
and held three rounds - with one up the spout. I also drew up plans for one
which would fit into a standard sized BIC lighter. It was a single shot, use it
once and toss it sort of thing. Never got around to building that thing,
though.

Well, yeah. But, you're never quite sure what they are looking for. The same
situation as obtains with our TSA screeners.   Bv)=

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Kapaw Pla *
 Categories: Oriental, Poultry, Seafood, Offal, Soups
      Yield: 4 servings

      4 c  Water
      1    Whole chicken breast
      8 oz Dried fish belly/fish maw;
           - soaked In hot water until
           - soft
    1/3 c  Light soy sauce
      1 tb Sweet soy sauce
    1/2 c  Bamboo shoot strips
    1/4 ts White pepper
      4 sm Hard-cooked eggs; sliced
    1/4 c  Minced cilantro/coriander
 
  * Dried fish belly soup 

  Once the fish belly has been soaked in hot water it develops
  an interesting gelatinous texture which easily absorbs other
  flavors.

  Heat the water to boiling in a large saucepan and simmer the
  chicken breast for about 10 to 15 minutes or until done.
  Reserve the chicken stock.
   
  Place the cooked chicken breast in cold water to cool.
  Remove the neat from the bone and discard the skin. Shred
  the meat and set aside.
   
  Drain the dried fish belly, squeeze out any excess water and
  cut into 1 inch pieces.
   
  Heat the chicken stock to boiling, add the dried fish belly
  and all the remaining ingredients except the eggs and the
  cilantro. Stir in the shredded chicken and cook until hot.
  Pour into a serving bowl and garnish with egg slices and
  cilantro.
