====================
Hi Ruth,

-> We got aan occaisional tv dinner if my parents were going to be gone out
-> for supper but I don't think I even had a hand full of those. Usually

 RH> I can remember the metal trays. I always liked the apples and the
 RH> salty mashed potatoes.

I never thought the potatoes were salty, but it could be because of the
amount of salt my mom cooks hers in. They were the rubbery instant
potatoes, as I recall. Can't really remember much specifically about
them but it's just as well; they weren't worth remembering. (G)

-> the same time. The other "junk" food we got was the Apian Way box
-> pizza; Mom would use them from time to time for a Sunday night supper.
-> Usually the cheese ones, the only extra added would be some extra
-> cheddar.

 RH> Cheddar on pizza ... uhmmm, ick?

Not enough used to make that much of a difference and we didn't know
better (tastewise) either. Of course once we had real pizza, it made us
realise how horrible those box ones are.

-> RH> I like the fresh ones and snow peas. A friend used to use peas as
-> RH> ice pack. When he used his wife's frozen blueberries...now that
 RH> was
->  RH> trouble.

-> I can imagine the scene. (G) Fresh peas are good; we got some at the
-> farmer's market earlier this year. But, most any other kind, either
-> canned or frozen, just don't a-pea-l to me.

 RH> Definitely not in a legume of their own.

Nope, and enough said on that.

->  RH> I wouldn't mind, but my town's so-called farmer's market often
-> RH> consists of one truck.

-> Now that's pitiful!

 RH> Worse, it's from about 20 miles away! It's not even local.

That's really bad. We've got quite a few in the area but just go to the
one in downtown WF.

-> RH> Boxed pasta, rice mixes, etc. Most will also take toiletries and
-> RH> paper goods although they don't advertise it. If nothing else they
-> RH> can use them in the pantry and save some operating budget for
->  RH> something else.

-> True; they can probably throw a roll of paper towels, some tooth paste
-> and a roll or 2 of tp into a bag of stuff for hand out too. Those
-> things are neccessary to keep life going too. TP can also be used to
-> blow the nose, paper towels can be used for napkins as well.

 RH> And you can't buy them with food assistance money.

No, and some things you just can't live without. Can live without paper
towels, nopkins or kleenex but gotta have TP.

-> RH> Sounds good. This weekend half of my church is headed up to a camp
->  RH> the conference owns.

-> Which half are you in, the going or staying?

 RH> Staying for certain. The estate sales and tag sales where I make
 RH> what's laughably called an income are all on weekends. Besides, long
 RH> distance walking and the great outdoors are my enemies.

I don't mind the outdoors if prepared for it. OTOH, long distance
walking can do me in pretty fast. Then, too, just being on my feet for
a long time can do that.

-> RH> I'm told some folks add sugar to it too. I think it's the German
->  RH> equivalent of Kraft Mac'n'Cheese.

-> Some folks add sugar to spaghetti sauce too; I don't. As for the mac &
-> cheese equal, I don't think so. At least not when we lived there.

 RH> Comfort food that no one raised outside of the area thinks is edible?

Wurst & brotchen is good most any time, even about 10:30pm, just before
hitting the Berlin Corridor at Helmstedt, as our girls can vouch for.
We made a week end trip down to Frankfurt once and made that stop on the
way back to Berlin.

-> RH> Especially once the dishwasher broke?

-> Never had one break on us. We treat them with more TLC than most folks

 RH> Sometimes TLC doesn't help. We had an LG that was defective as
 RH> designed; the only way to keep it from breaking was to use it as dish
 RH> storage.

We've not had any go bad on us. Fridges, yes but not dishwashers.

 RH> Found on Road Dead?

Yes, that one.

-> RH> lived down to it. There could just have been a faulty sensor, which

-> The sensor was the first thing replaced. Everything but the air bag
-> itself was replaced, some parts, more than once, and it still came on.
-> We knew we were leaving the area & didn't want to hassle with the issue
-> with another dealer. Also, we were going to do some travel and didn't
-> want: 1) the air bag to deploy, unexpectedly and unneccessarily or 2)
-> the air bag not to deploy when neccessary, should the occaision arise.

 RH> Enough was enough.

Given the circumstances, yes. One time we'd not gotten even a block
away from the dealership when it happened.

-> BTW, looks like we won't get hit by Earl; he will give the Outer Banks
-> some wind & rain but nothing this far inland.

 RH> All I got was a few drops of rain.

That's about what we got too.

Catch you later,
