I have tried it in recent years in various breaded things after
reading how it was popular in pulled pork sandwiches and on hot dogs
in some American regions but am not enamoured with the concept.

It sure isn't. I have lived in 4 provinces and territories and
visited all of the remaining 7 and have never, ever seen slaw on a
burger anywhere. "All-Canadian" my ass.

If you like dill pickle slices in your burger, then pickled beet is
not such a great leap. I've tried it and found it to be OK as a
novelty, not so much as a usual thing. The other famous Aussie
topping, the runny fried egg, is brilliant.

MMMMM-----Meal-Master - formatted by MMCONV  2.10

     Title: Singapore Lamb Riblets
Categories: Malaysian-style, Lamb
  Servings: 6

      5 lb meaty lamb riblets 
      2 qt water 
    1/3 c  soy sauce 
    1/4 c  tamarind concentrate 
      2 TB soy sauce 
      2 TB dry sherry 
      2 TB honey 
      2 ts sesame oil 
      1 ts freshly grated ginger 
      1 ts sambal oelek (fresh chili
           paste) 
      5    cloves crushed garlic 
    1/2 ts five spice powder 

Place lamb ribs in large saucepan. Cover with water and the 1/3 cup
soy sauce. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes. Drain
and let cool. Preheat oven to 350 F (175 C). Cover baking sheet with
aluminum foil. In medium bowl, mix remaining ingredients. Coat each
rib with sauce; arrange on baking sheet. ( Ribs may be marinated in
sauce 4 to 24 hours.) Roast 10 minutes. Reduce oven to 275 F (135
C). Baste with sauce. Roast 10 to 15 minutes longer or until tender.
Serve with Asian Slaw (recipe follows) or your favorite cole slaw
recipe.

Asian Slaw:

1/4 cup mayonnaise 
1 1/2 teaspoons granulated sugar 
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated ginger 
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil 
1/4 teaspoon salt 
1 Pinch white pepper
3 cups broccoli slaw or cole slaw

In large bowl mix mayonnaise, sugar, ginger, sesame oil, salt and
pepper. Add vegetables; toss. Makes 6 (1/2 cup) servings.
