NB>> could choose between "All" and "911 only" under a heading "location".
NB>> I promptly chose the latter. I'm guessing that that is sent by some
NB>> basic form of GPS on the phone. It certainly doesn't have the
NB>> capabilities to let me know where I am, or how to get anywhere... For
 NB>> that I use a map, anyway. :)

GJ> That sounds like a useful emergency assistance feature.

I thought so, too... :) Thankfully, I've not had the need to try it
out... ;)

GJ> I heard today of a truck driver whose truck with a loader on the back
GJ> was stolen. The thief didn't know the truck was equipped with a GPS
GJ> which recorded, but the owner was able to trace the truck to where it
GJ> had been taken. The thief was arrested, and the truck recovered, but
GJ> the loader was missing. The owner checked on the GPS, which had
GJ> recorded the details of the travel, and found where the loader had
GJ> been unloaded. It was recovered, and more arrests were made.

Now that was really handy. :) I've heard of the GPS tracking of stolen
vehicles before... but not quite like that... :)

GJ> My mistake. The approved abbreviation is "ICE" "In Case of Emergency".

Yes, that's what's it's called here, too.

NB>> I know some people here that have done that on their phones. The
NB>> closest I've done to that is to have the first number in my phone list
NB>> my home phone, by just listing it without a name, but with the "home"
NB>> symbol... I realize that may be a bit too subtle for some to figure
NB>> out, but at least it's on the top of the list for MY benefit all the
 NB>> same. :)

GJ> That is fine if you know someone else will be at home.

Well, that's the only way one would reach hubby, if at all... as he
refuses to even own a cell phone. The only other one I might list would
be my son, who does carry a cell phone (in fact it is his main phone)...
He's in my directory already, just not singled out...

NB>> there... :) I lost a treasured umbrella (that I had purchased in
NB>> Scotland) on a subsequent trip, when they decided at check-in that it
NB>> had to be checked, but it never arrived at the other end... Apparently
NB>> just vanished into thin air, and they didn't even seem to have a
NB>> record of it anywhere... :(

GJ> That is sad. My mother had an umbrella she bought in Scotland. It
GJ> was of very high quality, and lasted for years. I suppose in a place
GJ> as wet as Scotland it would have to be!

I had purchased mine in a shop in the train station in Edinburgh, having
arrived there with two 11-year-old boys in tow (my own son, and a son of
the family we were staying with in Airdrie), and with it raining so hard
there were sheets of water coming down through cracks in the glass
ceiling high above inside the train station... As we had planned a walk
to the Castle, some sort of raingear was obviously needed. It was a
lovely one, large like a golf umbrella (certainly large enough for an
adult and two young lads), a red plaid tartan cloth, and a nice carved
wood handle. It was lasting quite well, and likely would have for many
years more, had it not vanished...
