Tell the confuser not to go to sleep - ever. Mine is always busy doing
something in the background, so it's not a problem. But, I also went into the
"Power Options" in the control panel and set the controls to:

Turn off monitor: NEVER
Turn off hard disk: After 1 hour
System standby: NEVER
System hibernates: NEVER

Or out in the boonies where some of the Rural Electric Co-ops are getting into
high speed internet in a big way ... both with FIOS and wireless internet -
which your guy in Buzzard Breath, Maine (or wherever) might be able to use. My
brother is too far from the central AT&T switch to get DSL, hates the cable
clowns nearly as badly as I do, and needs more than dial-up. So, enter Xanadoo.
 Bv)=  I am sure that there is probably some similar 4G wireless service
available to your guy. Xanadoo is currently only in IL, OK and TX. Try a Google
on 4G internet service and see what sort of heat that draws.

I can do most of what I need on-line. If I do have to call I know most of the
tricks to get past the phone tree to a humern bean. Should I get stuck with the
"Your call is very important to us" music - I just put it on speaker-phone at a
low volume and continue with life until I hear a person on the other end.

Actually about the size of a PrimeStar (remember those) dish. Or a current
DirecTV or DISHnet dish. You may have seen a G-Tech or DirecWay satellite
installation without knowing what it was ... the tip-off is that the arm which
holds the actual antennae is a bit longer (the dish is just a reflector) and
the equipment at the end of that arm is of a radically different shape from the
LNB used by Direct or Dish for glass teat signals.

It is certainly not as big as the dishes on top of most gas station/convenience
stores or chain retailers. Those are also satellite (private) internet WAN
hook-ups. Some places have more than one - especially if they sell lottery
tickets.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Lottery Star's Pickled Eggs *
 Categories: Eggs, Preserving, Chilies, Herbs
      Yield: 24 servings

     24 lg Hardboiled eggs; peeled

MMMMM---------------------PICKLING LIQUID---------------------------
  1 1/2 c  Cider vinegar
    1/2 c  Water
      1 tb Dark brown sugar
      2 ts Granulated (white) sugar
      1 ts Mixed pickling spice
    1/4 ts Chilli spice
    1/4 ts Liquid smoke 
      2 ts Salt

  Combine above ingredients in a saucepan and boil for 5 mins.
  Cool.

  Pack hardboiled eggs into a jar and cover with pickling
  liquid. Let set for 2 days before eating. Will keep in the
  refrigerator for 2 weeks. Yummy. 

  * Last year the Iowa Lottery called us again for some of our
  barnyard "talent". Our white Orpington hen named Mattie was
  chosen as the Iowa Lottery's spokeschicken for their Cheaper
  by the Dozen Promotion. They came to the farm to take some
  digital pictures (CGI) of her beak in order to be able to
  manipulate it on the computer so she could appear as if she
  was speaking. The next day she had to go to the studio so we
  could get the rest of the shots (her sitting on a nest of
  golden eggs with microphones in front of her as if she were
  a celebrity at a press interview.) the whole thing was
  hilarious to watch as they filmed it.

  Well that was last year and I thought Mattie's fame and
  fortune days were over. I was watching TV during lunch and
  happened to see Mattie's commercial was being run again this
  year. "Crazy", I thought jokingly saying to myself that she
  should surely be due some residuals. HA. Well the studio
  that did the spot called the next day to say that Mattie
  would have another check in the mail as they would run the
  spot all of April due to popularity. It makes me laugh so
  hard to think that this chicken's commercial was so popular
  that the lottery brought it back. Mattie is worth her weight
  in gold, not only as a TV star, but also as a pet. She is
  the tamest calmest bird I have ever seen. I told her she
  could retire now, but she still lays an egg daily.
