Other than a cousin who died of cervical/uterine cancer at age 18 (in 1954)
most of my losses of friends and contemporaries up until about 10 years ago
have been from mishaps - car/motorcycle crashes, a drowning or two, one fall
whilst scaling some mountain/cliff/whatever, the odd industrial accident, etc.
But, lately hearts are starting to wear out, bodies are giving up, cancer of
some form or other is getting more noticeable, etc.

When I went to my 50th High School reunion .... the odd thing is that I
recognised many of my old classmates behind those wrinkles or under all that
excess poundage. And, of course, there were many gaps - either of people who
didn't make it that far or who had run off to distant climes.   Bv)=

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Reunion Pie
 Categories: Pies, Desserts, Pastry, Nuts
      Yield: 6 servings

     18    Ritz crackers; rolled fine
    2/3 c  Chopped pecans
      1 c  Sugar
      3    Egg whites
    1/2 ts Baking powder
      1 ts Vanilla
      1 c  Heavy cream; whipped &
           - unsweetened or use Cool
           - Whip

  Beat egg whites after adding baking powder; add sugar to egg
  whites and continue beating until stiff; fold in vanilla,
  crumbs and nuts.

  Bake in a greased 9" pie pan or 9" x 9" square pan at
  325xF/160xC for 35-40 minutes.

  Top with whipped cream or Cool Whip. Shaved chocolate or
  coconut may be added, if desired.

  If the pie is made in advance of serving, it should be
  chilled in the refrigerator and the whipped cream should be
  added just before serving.
