Don't look now, but that's how networks work. ABC, CBS, NBS, even FAUX provide
news, wide-ranging (snork) programming, some entertainment (guffaw) and the
local affiliates fill it in with local programming.

-> it Euro classical, American classical (jazz and blues), an eclectic mix,
-> etc. most of them go to one of the three major pubic networks for news
-> and information programs and Prairie Home Companion. Bv)=

RH> I don't think I've ever heard Prairie Home Companion over the air here.

I have never had a problem finding listenable music on the FM whilst in the
right coast area. Even back in the 80s and 90s.

-> Almost all of the "Classic Rock" stations are playing the same 40 or 50
-> songs and are programmed at a central feeder with local commercials and
-> station breaks. We have one station that is locally programmed until the

RH> Clear Channel at its finest. Not. The only hard rock station I listen
RH> to at all is the last indie in the market. The others... pffft.

I haven't heard any claims that a station is a "Clean(r) Channel" station for
dogs years. I thought they went tits-up before the turn of the century. Either
that or quit bragging and are keeping a low profile whilst raking in the dosh.

-> - except for the odd House of Blues segment from Elwood Blues (Dan
-> Ackroyd). Guess which one I listen to when I can't get any jazz or
-> blues on my vehicle radio???

RH> I turn on the nearest handy baseball game if it's the right time of

I don't listen to, watch, or follow *ANY* jockstrap sports, golf, tennis, etc.
I *might* watch a girl's fast-pitch softball game if I'm around one and bored.
But, only if the girls don't have better moustaches and hairier legs than I do.

RH> year. Beats the heck out of more reggae or salsa. That's when I don't
 RH> just shut it off.

-> Of course in my own car I have an MP3 capable player and several jazz or
-> classic rock (lotta Bob Seger, Eagles, ZZ Top, Chuck Berry, Queen, etc)
-> CDs in the glove box. Hardly ever flip over to FM.

RH> No MP3 jack in mine, but then I don't own an MP3 player anyway.

Mine is built right into the radio. All it takes (when built that way from the
get-go) is another chip to decode the MP3s in the firmware of the CD player.
160 or so tracks will take one quite a ways down the road.
I own an XM satellite receiver - and the radio has an AUX jack. But, I see no
point in schlepping Sirius/XM thirteen pazzuzas a month when I can burn my own
mix of music into a 20c CD.
