There's hosting and there's Hosting. And there are many kinds
of picnics, many locations - from people's backyards to church
picnic facilities to public parks. I've "hosted" three, but
aside from administrative stuff, others have shouldered much of
the responsibility for all of them. For the first two, I had
able assistance from both Clean Dave and from Patrick Rosenheim,
a onetime FIDO sysop, who hasn't been heard from in a while:
my first main event was at the Lions Club; the second at
Patrick's house. Of course, one offers what one has in property
and planning ability - in my case, the latter has had to suffice,
and it sounds as if if you'd get tapped for the job, that would
be true of you as well.

Anyhow, you'll be appreciated as host or welcome as
participant.

Repollo "Sonia" 
Cat: side, vegan
Serves: 4

2 Tb olive oil
1 lg onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, chopped
1 hd red or green cabbage, quartered, cored, and shredded
2 Tb balsamic vinegar, or more to taste
2 Tb white wine
1/3 c raisins
salt to taste

Cabbage with balsamic vinegar and raisins

Heat the oil in a large flameproof casserole over
medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring
often, for 5 min. Add the garlic and cook 2 more min.
Stir in the cabbage. Cover, turn heat to low, and
cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 min. Stir in the
balsamic, wine, raisins, and salt. Cover and continue
cooking for 15 min, stirring occasionally, until the
cabbage is tender. If the pan seems dry during
cooking, add more balsamic vinegar. Taste for
seasoning and add more salt, if you like.
