-> I think abandonment is in the works. I can't really deal
 -> with him this often.
HN> You are only able to do what you
 HN> can do...and controlling another's
HN> life is as unlikely as it is unsuccessful.

Then there's the parallel thread "but you ARE your brother's
keeper." Which I'm about to deny in a Cainish sort of way,
finding it hard to stand.

Psycho teenager time.

Okay, I was away for a couple days. Before I left I made a
steak; ate part of it, sliced up part of it for my first meal
when I returned (into the fridge it went), cooked part of
it a bit more for him and put it with some rice. I alerted
him to this - told him it was for him. I opened the lid and
showed him the meat (medium) and the rice, and I said, if
you don't eat it now, YOU CAN PUT IT INTO THE FRIDGE WHEN
IT GETS COOL ENOUGH (emphasis mine). So I return, hoping
for a baggie of nice red (bleu) meat to assuage my hunger.
It's gone. I ask him, what gives, and why did he eat my
food rather than what I'd prepared for him? His response,
I thought you might have changed your mind and put it away
in a baggie. I point out that my meal and his were completely
different in appearance, texture, and taste. Jonathan: "Oh, I
must have made a mistake. [reflects] But that's funny, since
I don't even like rare meat." He allows that perhaps I can,
in return, eat what I'd made for him. Only the stuff I fixed
for him is now white with mold, which I point out to him. He
says that he can't smell anything. I ask him to clean out the
kitchen sink so I can put the food down the disposal. Which
he actually does. Anyhow, I get me some ground beef and some
chips and a couple bananas and say, well, insofar as you
did me out of my dinner, you are not to ask for any of this
stuff, as it barely covers my own needs for the next couple
days. So as I'm cooking, he wanders in. "That smells really
good." I ignore him, and he goes away. Presently, he returns:
"Dang, that smells good." I point out that this is just for
me, as there's none extra thanks to yada yada. Next thing I
know, he's eating my chips. Would you like a banana, I ask
sarcastically? "No, I don't care for bananas, but if you'd
bought oranges I'd have eaten them." I seem to recall Rowan
and Martin or the Smothers Brothers or someone similar doing
a skit about a terminally selfish and oblivious roommate or
brother that was painfully similar to this and that I thought
hugely unfunny, despite it being aired at least a decade
before my brother was born.

HN> Tonight we are going to Mary
 HN> and Brian McDonald's son's (Brian Jr)
HN> wedding. I'll tell them you said "HI!"

Thanks. I hope all's well with them, even if they are
Republicans.

-> The Sockers have at times been an amazing embarrassment
-> this season as well. Maybe I should switch allegiances
-> and become an Orioles or a Nationals fan (for whom there
-> is noplace to go but up).
HN> Rather the same with the M's...you could
HN> convert to being an M"s fan!!

You're right, as the geographical issue isn't that important
to me, goodness knows.

-> No weeping for Burt this year, I think.
 HN> There is always hope!

Not until mid-postseason at least. I hate to see any National
League team beat any Junior Circuit one, but for the Yanks
I'll make an exception.

HN> Then how about the difference of
HN> going to away games by plane or
 HN> by old busses?

Funny thing, I enjoyed those bus tours almost as much as flying.

  I've seen AAA locker
 HN> rooms...and I've seen locker rooms
HN> at Safeco...I'd pick the "bigs" everytime!!

In the accommos department I've had everything from big lockers
with the Philadelphia Orchestra logo on them (I wasn't in that
group, just sharing its facilities) to a dusty cobwebbed boiler
room to a concrete bomb shelter, this last amply supplied with
beer and probably stronger and less legal substances should I
have pursued the issue. Didn't make any difference to me, I
sneezed just as much in all of them, dust being dust being dust.

-> HN> chat with you soon....and Bon Voyage!!
 -> Which voyage?
HN> You tell ME!! I can never
HN> keep up with where you are
HN> from one day to the next!!
 HN> BTW...where ARE YOU??

When I read this, I was in Charlotte. When you read the reply,
I will be in San Diego or San Francisco. Thence to farther
flung places, where it's anyone's guess whether or how often
I'll be reading the echo, as I may be without Internet and
with Lilli much of the time. Funny coincidence. Every time I
get a rash of lunatic e-mails from my brother, something nice
comes in from a friend such as Lilli. Is this nature's way of
saying "it all balances out"?

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v7.07

      Title: J.R.'s Layered Chocolate Mousse
 Categories: Desserts, Chocolate
   Servings: 20

      1 c Flour, unsifted
    1/2 c Butter, softened
      1 c Pecans, chopped
      8 oz Cream cheese
      8 oz Cool Whip
      1 c Sugar
      7 oz Instant chocolate pudding
  1 1/2 c Milk
      7 oz Instant vanilla pudding
  1 1/2 c Milk
    3/4 c Strawberries, fresh, sliced
      1 Candy bar, chocolate

  Servings: 20

Mix flour, butter and pecans together until finely crumbled. Press into
9-by-13-inch cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Let cool.

Beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Fold in half of the Cool Whip.
Spread on top of the crust.

Mix 7 ounces (two packages) of instant chocolate pudding mix with 1 1/2
cups milk. Spread on top of cream cheese mixture. Mix 7 ounces (two
packages) of instant vanilla pudding mix with 1 1/2 cups milk. Fold 3/4
basket of sliced fresh strawberries into vanilla pudding. Spread on top of
chocolate mixture. Cover the top with the remaining Cool Whip.

Shave a chocolate candy bar with a potato peeler and add shavings to the
top of the finished cake. Refrigerate for two hours before serving.

The dessert is outrageously rich, so plan to serve small portions. Do not
use frozen strawberries or sugar-free pudding mixes. Sliced bananas may be
  substituted for the berries.

From J.R.'s California Cafe, San Diego, CA
