===================
Hey Michael!
-> -> I think abandonment is in the works. I can't really deal
-> -> with him this often.
-> HN> You are only able to do what you
-> HN> can do...and controlling another's
-> HN> life is as unlikely as it is unsuccessful.
->
-> Then there's the parallel thread "but you ARE your brother's
-> keeper." Which I'm about to deny in a Cainish sort of way,
-> finding it hard to stand.
->
Yeh, but remember what one of those
brothers did to the other! We would like
to avoid that...as tempting as it may be!
-> Psycho teenager time.
->
-> Okay, I was away for a couple days. Before I left I made a
-> steak; ate part of it, sliced up part of it for my first meal
-> when I returned (into the fridge it went), cooked part of
-> it a bit more for him and put it with some rice. I alerted
-> him to this - told him it was for him. I opened the lid and
-> showed him the meat (medium) and the rice, and I said, if
-> you don't eat it now, YOU CAN PUT IT INTO THE FRIDGE WHEN
-> IT GETS COOL ENOUGH (emphasis mine). So I return, hoping
-> for a baggie of nice red (bleu) meat to assuage my hunger.
-> It's gone. I ask him, what gives, and why did he eat my
-> food rather than what I'd prepared for him? His response,
-> I thought you might have changed your mind and put it away
-> in a baggie. I point out that my meal and his were completely
-> different in appearance, texture, and taste. Jonathan: "Oh, I
-> must have made a mistake. [reflects] But that's funny, since
-> I don't even like rare meat." He allows that perhaps I can,
-> in return, eat what I'd made for him. Only the stuff I fixed
-> for him is now white with mold, which I point out to him. He
-> says that he can't smell anything. I ask him to clean out the
-> kitchen sink so I can put the food down the disposal. Which
-> he actually does. Anyhow, I get me some ground beef and some
-> chips and a couple bananas and say, well, insofar as you
-> did me out of my dinner, you are not to ask for any of this
-> stuff, as it barely covers my own needs for the next couple
-> days. So as I'm cooking, he wanders in. "That smells really
-> good." I ignore him, and he goes away. Presently, he returns:
-> "Dang, that smells good." I point out that this is just for
-> me, as there's none extra thanks to yada yada. Next thing I
-> know, he's eating my chips. Would you like a banana, I ask
-> sarcastically? "No, I don't care for bananas, but if you'd
-> bought oranges I'd have eaten them." I seem to recall Rowan
-> and Martin or the Smothers Brothers or someone similar doing
-> a skit about a terminally selfish and oblivious roommate or
-> brother that was painfully similar to this and that I thought
-> hugely unfunny, despite it being aired at least a decade
-> before my brother was born.
->
One of the things I used to tell
Amanda (who's birthday is today!),
was "Never be surprised when a snake
acts like a snake". You know what
your brother's attitudes and actions
are going to be, so don't be surprised
when that happens..expect it and plan
for it. don't leave things around for
him to "get into". If you need to,
keep a foot locker (locked) in your
bedroom with non perishables that
can sustain you for a few days until
you can go buy what you need. Don't
buy extra and don't make stuff for
him anymore. Make your plans with
him in mind...if there's something
you like and he doesn't...make THAT!
Wash only the dishes you use and
simply pile the rest up where they'll
be in his way. He'll only drive you
crazy if you let him...as soon as
it stops mattering to you, you'll
find it easier to deal with him. (hopefully)
-> HN> Tonight we are going to Mary
-> HN> and Brian McDonald's son's (Brian Jr)
-> HN> wedding. I'll tell them you said "HI!"
->
-> Thanks. I hope all's well with them, even if they are
-> Republicans.
->
Yeh, me too! It was a great time, LOTS
of food, served sequentially except for the
appetisers.
apps: Smoked salmon salad on baguette
Bread olive oil and balsamic vinegar
Prosciutti de parma
Salads: heirloom tomato & melon
chickpea, celery and parsely
first course: risotto with squid ink and braised squid (wow good!)
pork ravioli
gnocchi
polenta with truffles (didn't have)
second course: whole branzini
Delmonico steak (done perfectly!)
dessert course: We didn't get to stay for that one
and I don't remember them off hand.
The smoked salmon was great! the prosciutto was WOW, the
salads were good, the risotto was magnificent! the gnocchi
were superb the sauce was a bit spicy for some, the pork
ravioli was WOW, as good as a great dim sum! I didn't get
any of the polenta but it looked decent if a bit soupy. The
whole branzini was VERY good and the steak was perfect!
we left sometime after 10pm as we both had to be up
early friday, so we never saw the desserts. Had a great
time!
-> -> The Sockers have at times been an amazing embarrassment
-> -> this season as well. Maybe I should switch allegiances
-> -> and become an Orioles or a Nationals fan (for whom there
-> -> is noplace to go but up).
-> HN> Rather the same with the M's...you could
-> HN> convert to being an M"s fan!!
->
-> You're right, as the geographical issue isn't that important
-> to me, goodness knows.
->
Yeh and the standings don't seem to matter
much either!
-> -> No weeping for Burt this year, I think.
-> HN> There is always hope!
->
-> Not until mid-postseason at least. I hate to see any National
-> League team beat any Junior Circuit one, but for the Yanks
-> I'll make an exception.
->
That's you and me buddy!
-> HN> Then how about the difference of
-> HN> going to away games by plane or
-> HN> by old busses?
->
-> Funny thing, I enjoyed those bus tours almost as much as flying.
->
-> I've seen AAA locker
-> HN> rooms...and I've seen locker rooms
-> HN> at Safeco...I'd pick the "bigs" everytime!!
->
-> In the accommos department I've had everything from big lockers
-> with the Philadelphia Orchestra logo on them (I wasn't in that
-> group, just sharing its facilities) to a dusty cobwebbed boiler
-> room to a concrete bomb shelter, this last amply supplied with
-> beer and probably stronger and less legal substances should I
-> have pursued the issue. Didn't make any difference to me, I
-> sneezed just as much in all of them, dust being dust being dust.
->
Still the difference between being comfortable
and not comfortable is often significant.
The "new" homefield did not make any
difference to the AAA team however,
they lost 6-2...but still only need one
more win to advance. The next series
(if they continue on) will be with
Memphis and will be played entirely
on the road as Safeco will be occupied
by the M's during that time.
Boston comes in on monday, and
I'd be willing to roll over on our
backs and do the dead bug dance
if it would help them catch the
Yanks. The sox are 7.5 back and
the Yanks are playing in Texass
so there's a chance they could
make up some ground if tex keeps
winning. Then the yanks go to
Tampa who's neck and neck with 'em.
There is HOPE...but the sox have
to grasp it and hold on!
-> -> HN> chat with you soon....and Bon Voyage!!
-> -> Which voyage?
-> HN> You tell ME!! I can never
-> HN> keep up with where you are
-> HN> from one day to the next!!
-> HN> BTW...where ARE YOU??
->
-> When I read this, I was in Charlotte. When you read the reply,
-> I will be in San Diego or San Francisco. Thence to farther
-> flung places, where it's anyone's guess whether or how often
-> I'll be reading the echo, as I may be without Internet and
-> with Lilli much of the time. Funny coincidence. Every time I
-> get a rash of lunatic e-mails from my brother, something nice
-> comes in from a friend such as Lilli. Is this nature's way of
-> saying "it all balances out"?
->
Either that or softening you up for
the next sucker punch!
Have fun and chat with you soon!
