Those economies don't apply here. Partly because of the high wages
paid out to the workers (which I do not resent). The legal minimum
wage is $10 but employers are finding they have to pay $11 to start
and give $1 bumps, for every 600 hours of experience, up to $15 to
attract and keep employees.

My last meal out at Pizza Hut, for three people, cost $76. It
consisted of 1 salad, 1 serving (10 pieces) of chicken wings,
1 loaded medium pizza, 1 beer, 1 pop and 1 coffee plus 15% tip.

I could do a complete three course steak dinner with wine at home
for $76 or reproduce that meal for $19 or 25%.

I never count the time factor as I enjoy cooking and tolerate
washing up. I could also convince Neekha to doing the dishes for the
price of that tip.

Back in the early 70's my apt. roommate was an assistant manager at
an Arby's, back when they used real roast beef. He too got tired of
them fast even though they were pretty tasty and traded his free
staff lunch for with a McDonald's guy at a nearby location for his
burger. Neither of the franchisee owners minded at all provided that
the customers at both places never saw it happen. After all neither
one of them was out a penny by the exchange.

Similarly I once had an uncle who was a stationary engineer, 5 years
apprenticing at a Heinz plant and then a long career at Ford. For
the rest of his life he could not tolerate ketchup or pasta sauce,
although he still liked fresh, raw tomatoes. And he never even ate
the stuff, just smelled tons of it cooking for 40 hours a week.

(The other uncle who worked at Hiram Walkers never developed that

For the Spanish, a montado is a flavorful topping "riding" on a
small slice of baguette. Montados or montaditos are very commonplace
and popular in tapas bars. They come in all flavors - beef, chicken,
pork, sausage or vegetarian, and can be prepared hot or cold. To
prepare many montados, no recipe or cooking is needed - assemble the
ingredients for the toppings and pile them on slices of bread, a
sort of mini version of an open-faced sandwich.

Following is a list of montados, most of which do not need recipes.

Vegetarian 

There are no rules about what makes up a montado. Although they may
have started out as the Spanish version of an open-faced sandwich -
topping a slice of bread with a little piece of meat, there are
plenty of vegetarian options. If it can sit on a baguette slice, it
can be a montado, so let your imagination run wild!

Tomato, Goat Cheese and Avocado
Eggplant and Tomato
Grilled Sliced Mushrooms, Onions and Garlic

When trying to lose weight or simply counting calories, instead of
using a slice of bread for the montado base, substitute a Portobello
mushroom or a slice of tomato or eggplant:
Tomato Slice topped with Goat Cheese and Avocado
Grilled Eggplant topped with Tomato Slice (drizzle oil or Balsamic
Vinegar)
Grilled Portobello mushroom topped with Roasted Red Pepper and
Melted Cheese
