IOW everywhere in the civilised world EXCEPT Australia, where I suppose that
they don't have enough imagination to design a best-selling game that will
capture the interest of the money spending youth of today.

GJ> So I have you (or your Australian equivalent) to blame for all the

Not so, White Fang. Not so. We were sales, not advertising. Blame the
advertising people for the (obsolescent) snail-mail SPAM.

GJ> When I worked in the Defence industry in 1958 or so, one of my first

GJ> I think the power of that mighty machine was about the same as my
 GJ> mobile phone.

There was one of the Alphabet soup agencies of the US Gummint that kept track
of the tides on the East Coast of the US - up until a couple of years ago - on
a Commodore 64.

GJ> I would have thought that the originators of those developments would
GJ> have made so much money from their bright ideas that they could help

Sort of.

DD> You do understand how R&D works, do you not? A clever R&D lab will
DD> licence their product to damned near anyone for actual production. Sony
DD> may be big in the Antipodes - but, they pretty much suck hind teat in
DD> the US ... along with much of the rest of Japanese technology.

GJ> Just about everything electronic here is Japanese designed and sold
GJ> under Sony, Sanyo, Canon, Epson, but made in low wage countries like
 GJ> Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, China.

Most of the sophisticated electronics in the US come from Taiwan or somewhere
in China - even if made in Singapore or Djakarta.

We live in a truly global economy. I bought a pair of short breeches this
weekend (after determining they were not made in China) at a quite reasonable
cost. But, when I got home I Googled up Lesotho immediately to see where the
hey it lives when it's home and in its jammies.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

Title: Lesotho Spinach & Tangerine Soup
 Categories: Soups, Poultry, Greens, Citrus
      Yield: 5 servings

  1 1/2 l Chicken stock
     75 g Yellow split peas
     25 g Unsalted butter
    100 g Spring onions; chopped
      1 ts Ground turmeric
225 g Fresh spinach; fine chopped
     40 g Parsley; chopped
     50 g Coriander; chopped
           Grated zest of 2 tangerines
           Juice of 3 tangerines
20 g Ground rice or rice flour
    150 ml Cold water
    225 g Natural yoghurt

Spinach and Tangerine Soup is a traditional Lesothan recipe
for a classic soup of spinach, tangerine juice and zest
cooked in chicken stock flavoured with split peas and
onions and thickened with ground rice and yoghurt.

Soak the split peas over night. The following day add the
chicken stock to a pan and bring to a boil. Drain the split
peas and add to the pan. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 10
minutes. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a pan and add the
spring onions. Fry gently for 5 minutes before adding the
turmeric. Fry for 1 minutes then add the cold water and
ground rice and stir in. Transfer the contents of the pan to
the stock pot then add the coriander, spinach, parsley and
tangerine zest and juice to the pan, cover and cook for 15
  minutes, stirring occasionally.

Ladle the soup into dishes, garnish with a dollop of yoghurt
and sprinkle fresh coriander over the top.

  Serve immediately.
