When the stock so superabundant as you indicate it is, it
seems the sensible solution in the short run is pure
cold-blooded killing, not harvesting. This could bring the
population down to a manageable level, and then the culling
brand of conservation might take over.

I understand there is a harvesting strategy that takes into
account the overplus of the vermin, involving simply a much
higher rate and more persuasive marketing of the product,
resulting in such phenomena as soccer shoes and kangatarianism.

As far as cost effectiveness of butchering goes, that issue
doesn't seem to have stopped the lamb, chicken, and veal
industries.

I really don't see the anthropological purity thing, nor the
give the poor creatures a fair chance thing. How many eaten
aboriginal limbs has this policy cost?

      Title: Cider Syllabub (Mb)
 Categories: Dessert, Beverage
      Yield: 4 Servings

    1/2    Lemon; grated rind and
           -juice
     50 g  Caster sugar
    125 ml Sweet cider
     15 ml Brandy
    250 ml Double cream

  In a large bowl, mix the lemon rind and juice with the caster sugar,
  cider and brandy. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

  Put the cream in a mixing bowl. Whip it until it stands in stiff
  peaks. Gradually fold in the lemon and cider mixture.

  Pour the mixture into stemmed glasses and refrigerate for about 2
  hours. Remove 20 min before serving to allow the flavours to
  'ripen'.
