 RH> Just a trap door. This is a ranch house.

I guess you could describe ours as a bungalow. Small, cozy, definately a
lack of storage space.

-> and dog plus a whole bunch of stuff. Supposed to be 3 BR, 1.5 bath but

 RH> That sounds like my Aunt and Uncle's old barely post-WWII house.  It
 RH> was supposed to be a four bedroom place, but one of those bedrooms was
 RH> the size of a closet.  Two were halves of the attic.  One bathroom,
 RH> four kids, two dogs.  Proceed to minor chaos.

Steve's folks raised 5 kids with one bathroom but a bigger house. Dad
had the wisdom to have 2 as part of his plans for the house he built. We
really appreciated them. (G) He didn't consider the problems of aging
when he put the washer/dryer and food storage in the basement tho. The
kitchen could have better storage also; it was improved some with the
mid 70s update but is still a major problem.


 RH> We got some good gusts, but the lights stayed on.  About half the
 RH> state went out though and a good chunk are still out.

The Outer Banks area and inland from them are still having a lot of
problems. What didn't help was a major thunderstorm system that went
thru the eastern half of the state Monday night.


-> did my parents in the Catskills. Their whole downtown was flooded to

-> lots of small businesses. Mom & Dad live up and out of town so lost
-> village water (tied into their well back up) and power (for a short
-> time). They got off quite easy compared to a lot of folks in the area.

Very much so! Steve just talked to my dad; a major fire took out even
more of downtown. H... and high water in Margaretville.

-> In a vintage 60s house (see above)?

 RH> Yep - actually 1960 on the nose. The oven is mid-90s though.

And getting a lot of use by you.

-> And less floor space taken up as with the free standing range/oven unit.

 RH> True.  No significant increase in storage, but it beats bending over
 RH> to haul out a Thanksgiving turkey!

Ours has come out of the smoker in recent years. Last year it was smoked
wings that had been in the freezer eaten at a rest stop on our way up to
NY. Had a proper (leftovers) dinner the next day at Steve's sister's
home.

->  RH> The Catskills will only get the edge of it.

-> It was a rather vicous edge tho.

 RH> The wet edge.  We were supposed to get that, but the storm shifted.
 RH> Rhode Island got the wind.
