Quite interesting indeed! He's taking somewhat of an interest in making
sure the roof over his head is somewhat maintained. Probably figured it
took less work, time, effort, etc to clean out debris from the gutter
before a storm to clean & dry a flooded basement after the storm.
Especially if the basement is pack rat heaven! (G)

OTOH, I couldn't imagine my mom using one. (G) My mom's dad was not a
handy man at all so every Sunday her mom's parents would be invited for
dinner. Her grandfather knew to bring his tool box with him and do any
odd fix it jobs before or after dinner. I've learned a few from Steve
but others I wouldn't want to tackle on my own.

True, and often times it's ones doing something they know could prove to
be fatal but still do it anyway. Others have no say so as in the case of
the girl in Goldsboro who was a passenger in the family car. They were
from out of state, not sure why they were driving in those conditions to
begin with.

Tasso ham is the traditional "pig", not bacon in shirmp & grits.

 ML> 2 dashes Tabasco

What's all this other stuff? A bit of some, but not that much on some,
others can be left out completly. Okra & cream fall into the latter
category.

 ML> h - For the grits
 ML> 1/2 c olive oil
 ML> 1/4 c garlic, chopped
 ML> 1/2 c white onion, chopped
 ML> 4 oz applewood-smoked bacon
 ML> 1 3/4 qt chicken stock
 ML> 2 c stone-ground grits
 ML> 1 Tb kosher salt
 ML> 1 ts black pepper

No, just basic grits. Somebody's trying to dress up what started as a
budget stretcher meal.

 ML> For the perloo sauce, heat a medium-size saucepot until
 ML> hot. Add bacon and saute until crisp. Add onions, garlic,
 ML> and celery, and saute on medium heat for 2 min. Add cream,
 ML> stock, Tabasco, and okra; bring to a boil. Reduce heat,
 ML> and simmer over low heat for 10 min. Heat 2 oz of oil in
 ML> a separate saute pan; add shrimp and cook for 1 min. Add
 ML> perloo sauce and cook for 20 min. Spoon grits into center
 ML> of bowl; place shrimp on top.

Twenty minutes for shirmp????????? Are they trying to make it rubber
shrimp? No more than 5 minutes at most, 3 is usually optimal. Goodness
gracious!
