Ocean Spray Light cranberry and raspberry - better than I
remembered, though still with a bit of that diet puckery
taste. Light might also refer to the fruit aromas; though
the label brags about more fruit juice (50%) than other
brands, that juice is apple, a low-acid generic tasting
substance that could just as easily be sugar water. I wouldn't
go out of my way for it, though it was reasonably quenching.

Giant white cranberry peach juice cocktail - fairly sweet,
not very tart, very peachy, owing to loads of "natural
flavors" - the main juice component this time being white
grape. Pretty decent, though the peachiness persisted way
longer (in the atmosphere, in the mouth, on the fingers)
than it had any business doing.

Canada Dry bitter lemon - nowhere near as good as Schweppes
used to be; less balanced, and very different flavor profile
- more like Squirt or Fresca, Gail thought.

Mallomars - these are apparently a nostalgia-driven issue
from Nabisco, who don't really market them, but they just
miraculously appear on store shelves now and again, like
Pinwheels, though Mallomars are listed on the Website as a
Nabico brand and Pinwheels are not. Anyhow, Pinwheels are
or were chocolate based marshmallow cookies with a dark
chocolate coating, suitable for eating in about 6 bites;
Mallomars, the product I remember from the last century,
have a graham base but otherwise are similar but a third
the size (I recall them having been bigger). The graham
base is sort of cardboardy, but truth be told I feel that
way about all graham products (but also there's a pleasant
saltiness going on, which contrasts nicely with the sweet
of the rest of the confection); marshmallow nice and soft
and nothing; the chocolate coating was surprisingly pretty
chocolaty. All in all a nice dessert, and the small size
allows 1. you to eat more of them and 2. there to be a
greater chocolate coating to marshmallow ratio, which I
think is a good thing. Unfortunately, after I'd eaten 3
of the things, I got extremely gassy, which made me rethink
my original assessment of nondairitude. Sure enough, the
first ingredient listed is "sweet chocolate," of which the
last ingredient, buried there in the middle, is milk.

Oscar Mayer Braunschweiger - rather salty and not as
smooth as I'd prefer, with substantial bits of gristle.
Flavor modestly porky, a very tiny bit smoky, and almost
not livery at all. I prefer Jones, but any Braunschweiger
is better than no Braunschweiger.

A meal at home:

Gail makes a mean pot roast. Actually, we all had a hand in it,
but Gail did the bulk of the work; Dale masw the gravy and
seasoned it very heavy on the herbs, adding rosemary, which is
something I don't think to do (I confine my use of that herb
to Mediterranean-style food, mostly with tomatoes). Quite good
use of a 3-lb piece of chuck. Also cooked with the meat were
onions, carrots, celery, and potatoes. A hearty down-home dinner.

Leftover pot roast. Eaten cold: good. Sliced thin and then
lightly reheated: better.
