==========================
Hi Ruth,

-> Exactly what I was trying to say! Who needs years old "National
-> Geographic" and "Reader's Digest" magazines anyway? Not even libraries

 RH> The recycling bin.

Going to need a big one; they've got about 50 years of NG in the house.
Not so much of RD but Dad has all but one (the first) issue of "Model
Railroader" and all of "Railroad Model Craftsman". Probably 60-70 years
of the first, close to 50 of 2nd. Those will be sold, if possible as a
set.

-> take them. In thinking about it, the kitchen will be the easiest room to
-> go thru as there's not a lot of stuff in it. Mom only has a couple of
-> drawers of cook books, several junk drawers, a couple for measuring
-> the counter tops. All in all, it can be done in an afternoon--if there's
-> not a lot of sibling bickering.

RH> It's the rest of the place that will be a chore.

Better believe it! Living room, computer room, dining room, 2 bathrooms,
store room, attic, basement and 3 bedrooms, of which 2 are used for
storage as well as guest sleeping (after stuff is cleared off the beds).
There's also the garage and tractor shed but the latter will probably
stay as is. I'm 99.99% sure the garage still has the sleds we used as
kids; a couple of them were used by Mom and Dad when they were younger.
My brother will be buying the house but does not want all the contents
as he's got enough "stuff" of his own to put in it. He'll probably have
a good clean out before moving but the siblings won't have to help with
that.

 I don't even want to
 RH> THINK
RH> about someone trying to clean out my sewing room!

I do a partial pack up before the packers come. Machines go into
original boxes, stuff in drawers into Rubbermaid or Tupperware, basic
sewing needs into a box by itself, scissors and shears stowed safely,
etc, etc. Years of military moves showed me that was the best way to
handle those. I do the same with the kitchen--spices I want to keep, I
pack; empty out flour, sugar, etc and pass on to the neighbors; pack up
all knives that I don't need; assemble a box of basics (chef's & paring
knives, cutting board or 2, measuring cups & spoons, wooden spoon,
spatulas, scrapers, etc).

(below oven drawers)

RH> Too true. Most people have them though. Why I'll never
 know
. RH> -> -> it's the expected norm. For us, it gives some much
needed storage, even -> tho it's a pain to access.

-> RH> There is that. It's no good for anyone who's partially
disabled, but RH> just get manufacturers to understand that.

But it's better than having a 2nd oven down there. Found out a friend's
range is set up that way. Not what I'd ever buy; I'd put the 2nd one
above and move the microwave (ours is free standing anyway) that is
usually above the cook top.

-> That's the way it goes tho, sad to say. Wonder how much of our news gets
-> acknowledged over there?

RH> A fair bit. Baseball scores get reported for certain. US teams have
RH> a following in Japan and Taiwan.

Plus, I suspect a lot of economic news.

Catch you later,
Ruth
