While I've never had the cortisone shots myself, I've witnessed plenty
of them being administered... some docs seem to be better at giving them
than others... and it makes a difference how fast it's shot in... slower
is less painful, but takes more skill (and patience).  (It may also be
that after you've had a few of them, they don't hurt so much...?)  If
you can take glucosamine&condroitin that might help instead, too.  Side
effects vs pain is a tough call... And, as we've said before, there's no
"one size fits all" here... ;0

Just because they say they won't cover it, absolutely won't cover it,
doesn't mean that you can't fight it... IF it can be shown to be
necessary, that's what the appeals process is for.  My current insurance
simply doesn't cover any "Tier 3" drugs... which my only working reflux
med is...  But, with the fight through the appeals process, they gave
the prior auth(orisation) anyway.  Something like the MRI, you probably
could have gotten approved, but not without a real uphill fight...  That
super-high deductible is supposed to be connected to a health savings
account, isn't it...?   With Richard not working, we qualified for
Healthy NY (which is a plan for the [recently] working poor), which is a
stop-gap insurance... pretty basic bones... but less expensive than the
usual non-group insurance...
