====================================================================
Hi Michael,

RH> Just finished an on line mid term test. I'd rather have done it on
 RH> paper but....................

ML> Is the online kind timed, and can you go back to
ML> recheck your answers? I don't think it would make much

Yes, and yes

ML> difference to me if the parameters of the online test
ML> were similar to those of a classroom test.

The problem is with the computer. If you're not out of the question
field when you scroll down to the next one, the computer will think
you're changing your answer and will mark the next lower answer in the
list. If you don't go back to check, you could be in big trouble. There
were also some questions where what was being looked for in an answer
wasn't quite clear (Some of my classmates felt the same way.) so I hope
I gave what was being asked for.

ML> I prefer handwashed dishes myself, but anyone with upper
ML> extremity troubles would welcome a machine.
RH> Or lower arm. In my case, the wrists and elbow have problems with the
RH> (mostly) repetitive motions needed to wash them.

ML> And the wear and tear on the joints.

Very much so! The wrists and elbows--my weak spots anyway.

 ML> Besides, by using the
RH> dishwasher, I can get a day's worth done at once. I don't have the
RH> room in my dish rack to handle that much, plus the things that don't go
 RH> into the dishwasher.

ML> I prefer to do them as they are used. Jonathan prefers
ML> to use all the dishes available before washing several

I do hand wash stuff as it accumulates but with just the 2 of us, it
makes more sense to wait until the dishwasher is full to run it.

ML> weeks' worth at once, hurriedly, before I arrive; though
ML> lately he's just kept piles of them around perhaps in the
ML> hope I'll get exasperated and do them. For a while, I

And you did, didn't you?

ML> was going out to eat by myself rather than cooking in a
ML> filthy kitchen, but the kid just felt affronted and didn't
 ML> change his ways.

So you end up doing a pile of dishes anyway. Thanksgiving morning, the
day after Steve officially proposed, I did a pile of dishes in his
apartment. Only the first of many I've done since. (G)

ML> His priorities are Tyson chicken, canned or dehydrated
 ML> soup, and prepackaged muffins.
RH> So how does he cook the chicken?

ML> Microwave, sometimes oven. It's breaded prefried.

Adding more calories than he probably needs.

RH> Is it one that's injected with brine to add (water) weight?

ML> Most chickens these days have water weight at least from the
ML> processing bath, and some have up to something percent of a
ML> solution added, but that's not necessarily substantially
ML> different from brining. I recently got an air-chilled bird
ML> from Whole Foods, and it wasn't much better than Perdue or
 ML> the Giant house brand.

I don't buy too many meats at Whole Foods; our Lowe's has a good
department there.

RH> I use some canned soups, but read labels carefully.

ML> I am not sure he can read a label.

I used to leave all the label reading to Steve but in the past few
years, I've done quite a bit of it myself. Mostly looking for things
like HFCS or super high sodium levels...........

RH> I've had prepackaged muffins, I was less than thrilled with them.

ML> In the land of no baking skills, prepackaged muffins are king.

True, but I've the baking skills. Need to do some muffins for grab & go
breakfasts for Steve.

ML> Funny thing was that I encouraged him to make his own such
ML> things, and he did for a while and at least pretended to like
ML> his own product, but then he relapsed and the fridge is half
ML> full, with packaged muffins and jugs of Simply Lemonade. I

Sounds like he really wasn't too thrilled with his own baking--it meant
he had to clean up after himself.

ML> have also warned him about blood sugar, highness of which runs
 ML> in the family.

In and out?

RH> sounds like he's the total opposite of you in regards to cooking &
 RH> eating.

 ML> Pretty much.

Like my family. (G)

ML> more than I do, because of the clause written in at my suggestion
ML> to protect him when he was a minor child) to do so. Anyhow, he
RH> And never changed once he reached adulthood.
 ML> That's exactly it.
RH> And probably close to impossible to do so now with your parents gone.

ML> The only thing I could have done would have been to have him
ML> declared incompetent, but I figured that would do him a lot of
ML> psychological damage; further, I'd probably have had to be the
ML> guardian, a task I am not up for.

Can't win for losing it seems.

ML> It took a decade to teach him to clear dirty dishes off the
ML> table, another decade to teach him to put them in the sink.
RH> So, another decade to learn how to load & run the dishwasher, and yet
RH> another one to learn how to unload it and put the clean dishes away.
RH> Think you'll live that long?

ML> Maybe. Though that fourth decade you posit won't happen, as
ML> there will be that pesky dearth of dishes.

Just as long as he doesn't intermingle clean & dirty in the dishwasher.

ML> Title: Pescado en Mojo De Ajo (Fish in Garlic Sauce)
RH> Good, if done properly. Wonder how it would work with flounder.

 ML> Should be fine.

 ML> ------------- Recipe Extracted from Meal-Master (tm) v6.30
 ML> ------------------

 ML> Title: Curried Chicken Dinner
 ML> Categories: Low-cal Chicken Indian
 ML> Servings: 6

Looks good, make a few tweaks here & there (no bullion powder or cubes,
no alcohol.............that type.) and, serve it over brown rice. (G)
