Tastes from my travels

Smart Balance lactose-free fat-free milk with omega-3
fatty acids - somewhat sweeter than real milk, from what
I recall; slow to grep me, but grep me it did. I also
find it peculiar that they put fish oil in milk, but of
course fish doesn't de-parve things.

Earth Balance natural buttery spread - not very buttery.
Spreads slightly less easily than a soft margarine. Flavor
of corn, slightly rancid. Not horrible. Vegan and parve.

De Kuyper white creme de cacao - very mild chocolaty
flavor. Made a decent white Russian. Very sweet of course.

Capri Sun Roarin' Waters tropical fruit flavored water
beverage with other natural flavors - what the heck is a
water beverage? Anyhow, it has just 30 Cal a (small)
serving, using HFCS and sucralose to produce an almost
convincing sweetness. A sort of mango-guava Hawaiian Punchy
aroma but little flavor. Obviously another way of separating
yuppie children from their money. I'm wondering if drinking
this will lead to water addiction or to the hard stuff, like
carbonated caffeinated soft drinks.

Gifford's Moose Tracks lowfat frozen yogurt - milky; not too
sour, quite fudgy chocolate swirly things making up a
substantial flavor boost but I imagine dehealthifying the
product. Also little wax blobs with a vague taste of peanut
butter cups. Otherwise light on the flavor. Nothing special.

Glitterati candies (checkmatescandy.com) - these tiny boiled
sweets are popping up everywhere and are among Lilli's favorite
candies. Little bursts of flavor intensity, and restaurants and
such are discovering that as they are like a couple grams only,
they are a really cheap giveaway. Kind of nice, actually, not
too too much sweetness in your mouth but not aggressively sour
either.

A couple of party wines of varying lack of merit.

Twisted Zin old vine Zinfandel (California) 2005 - on the nose
raisins and prunes, perhaps a little nuttiness, but there was
something really offputting and stinky as well. To taste -
well, I can say that it wasn't too sweet. In fact, it was
rather bitter, like overbrewed tea, but without the tannic
pucker you might expect in such a situation. Very strange.
Did someone spike this with some strange-tasting chemical
to be funny? F

Cigar Box reserve hand harvested Cabernet Sauvignon (Central
Valley, Chile) 2009 - plums, chocolate, oak on the nose. On
the palate sour cherries and cigar box. And I thought it was
an attempt to capitalize on stupid names like Layer Cake.
Sort of dead on the finish. What aftertaste there was was of
Band-Aid. Not high on my list, but not nearly so bad as the
above. C-

Anakena Cabernet (Maipo Valley, Chile) 2009 - lighter than either
of these; also less objectionable. Red cherry and herbs, A little
too sweet and a lot too wimpy. Short almost nonexistent finish. C
