One of my joyous moments was pushing a trolley carrying many
liters of wine in the form of Lilli through the Frankfurt
airport (one of the most horrible and byzantine places on earth,
and about which I have sour dreams once a month on average - my
most typical anxiety dream -, only I always misattribute the
identity of my dream-airport as De Gaulle, another horrible
airport). The Polizei were not amused, but there wasn't much
they could do, as we were adults with Lufthansa all-access tags
at the time, which was after midnight on a nice autumn night a
couple years ago.

   He
 GJ> has just signed on as a subject in a world-wide evaluation of diabetes
 GJ> and heart disease treatments, and so has been given a Blood Glucose
 GJ> meter to test himself at different times during the day.

Does this augment his dole at all?

   On Thursday
 GJ> we put it to the test after a few hours eating and drinking.  He got a
 GJ> reading of 18.1, so I tested myself, getting 5.8.  According to Kevin,
 GJ> that is not too bad.  He has now got some more bitter melon tea to
 GJ> bring his readings down.

I'd say 18.1 was pretty high (the factor is 18:1 or so).

 GJ> Kevin sends his deepest sympathies - and said that if you had any
 GJ> unwanted bottles of wine lying around, he would be delighted to
 GJ> dispose of them for you.  (You can send them to my address, and I may
 GJ> pass them on to him.)

He is so kind. Might be more cost effective just to send
him a few plastic dollars so he can buy his own carton wine.

      Title: Dagung (Corn Fritters)
 Categories: Indonesian, Breads
   Servings:  4

     16 oz Corn, Creamed
      1 md Onion
      3    Garlic Cloves
      1    Thai Chile
      1    Egg, Beaten
      1 c  Flour
           Salt To Taste
           Oil For Frying

  Grind or chop together the onion, garlic, and pepper in a food processor.
  Fry in a little vegetable oil until the onion is golden.  Add to the corn
  in a bowl.  Mix in the egg, salt and flour.  Test a spoon- ful in the hot
  oil.  Mixture should be thick enough NOT to separate when placed in the
  oil.  Drop by spoonfuls into hot oil. Cook until light golden in color,
  turning to cook both sides.  Drain on paper towels. Serve immediately.
