===============================
 ML> I didn't mean to tread where I shouldn't - just used the term
ML> to ask obliquely if she was young.
RH> That's what I figured you were asking; I just answered it from a
RH> different perspective than you were anticipating.

I should have figured.

ML> And I suppose so. We seem to mourn more when we lose someone
ML> young, though that makes not a whole lot of sense.
RH> I've seen that; it's probably the "what if" theory as in "what if this
RH> person had the potential to become president, write the great American
RH> novel, solve the world peace/hunger issues, etc?".

But someone else will become president, write the great American
novel, and so forth. And someone else will willingly or not cause
the next great tragedy. I figure the same criterion obtains
whether someone is snuffed out in midlife or at the end of a
full one - did the person make life better, in whatever way. Or
perhaps even try to.

ML> breast. But I sleep badly and eat badly when I am there and
ML> occasionally get really uneasy. The final report from the
RH> I can see why. Maybe it might be better to use a hotel for at least
RH> one night of the stay?

Not only might, is. In the last few years I've become quite
familiar with the hotel situations near the airports, plus the
Shipps have offered respite on occasion.

ML> bottled up anger that the doc feared might come out (this is
ML> no real news, and I lock the door to my room).
RH> Not the most ideal situation there.

Was always the case. When my mother died and I took over use of
the room, I didn't always lock the door, but now that there are
only two in the house, I do. The chance of anything actually
happening is slim, I think, but I'd prefer it to be zero.

RH> Tough situation; sounds like he might need at least a temporary
 RH> residential treatment somewhere.

This has been investigated. The problem is that voluntariness
is a must, given the situation, as I am in no position to force
him to do anything, and neither of us is eager to get the county
welfare department involved. We have tried Jewish Social Services,
but as soon as we got anywhere with that, he put up the religion
roadblock (claiming quite falsely that JSSA would at least
subliminally attempt to undermine his faith); now they won't have
anything to do with him, or so he claims.

ML> Crab Cakes with Chive Beurre Blanc Sauce
RH> Looks good. Steve was half debating going for crab cakes at a local
RH> place run by a couple of guys from Maryland

Crab, with its lovely gentle texture and flavor and
combination of sweetness and brininess, is sometimes
worth the substantial cost.

RH> Steve had a sweet potato pie waiting for him at home; I'd baked it
RH> earlier in the day. Since I don't like sweet potatoes, I got the
 RH> banana pudding.

Aside from the texture, I find sweet potato pie very like
squash pie.

MMMMM--------------------------FILLING-------------------------------
1 pt Ice cream, vanilla; softened
      1 c Pumpkin, canned
    3/4 c Sugar
    1/2 ts Ginger, ground
    1/2 ts Cinnamon
