===========================
Hi Nancy,

RH> It's fun to sometimes see how crazy you can get with the English
RH> language. But, you also have to pity those that come here and have to
RH> learn it; we've got so many odd rules and exceptions.

NB> Other languages can be similar... and one needs to really understand
NB> the language to fool around with it intelligently... ;)

Definately helps to know the 2nd language well! When we were in Germany,
going out one day with a friend who was fluent in German, somewhat so in
Russian, he was half listening to the car radio. I've no idea what was
being discussed (don't remember; that was 25 years ago) when he said
something about "that rhymes in English, as well as German". The
commentator had used the phrase "better Red (communinst) than dead" and
Jim picked up on it, realising that it indeed rhymed in English and
German.

RH> We were at the Brockport Wegman's this past Friday night--picked up
RH> a few things we can't get locally. (I wrote to Michael about why we
RH> were in western NY.) Found the Co-Co Puffs in whole wheat, as well
RH> as multi grain. They've moved the machine that makes them to the
RH> back of the store so we had to hunt it dowm. Guess the novelty has
 RH> worn off.

NB> Our store has the machine about halfway back, between the bakery and
NB> the meat/seafood departments... the store I first saw one of those,
 NB> had it
NB> in the back nestled into the Nature's Marketplace section, from the
NB> very beginning... :) When our store got one, though, I figured the
 NB> novelty
NB> had worn off, since we don't often get the newest stuff... (G)

I'm still waiting for those machines to hit Harris Teeter or Lowes down
here. HT is a bit more upscale than Lowes but has good "buy x, get y
free" specials from time to time and sometimes good meat & produce
specials. Lowes is the "go to" for most of our shopping for anything
outside of the run of the mill stuff we get at the lowest priced place.

RH> On our way back from western NY yesterday, we got to the intersection
RH> of 11 & 15 at Shamokin Dam just at noon. I spotted the sign for
RH> Skeeters Pit BBQ (up on the bluff, overlooking the river) so we decided
RH> to give it a try. We'd passed it a number of times, never hitting it at
RH> meal times before. They had a lunch special of a rib plate & fries at a
RH> good price so we went with that. It was good! Five nice and meaty pork
RH> ribs in the house sauce--spicy but not overly hot, I'd say "tangy".
RH> Fresh fried to a crisp shoe string fries, well drained, not soggy.

NB> Good thing Steve has decided that pork is ok... (G) I don't generally

He really came out of that when we moved up here. He still prefers ham
as his favorite way to have it but won't turn down a plate of ribs if
offered one. (G)

NB> stop for meals when I'm traveling (I realize I'm a bit of an exception
NB> to general rules though [g]), but that does sound like a nice place to
 NB> stop. :)

Very definately worth the while. We used to pack all sorts of munchies,
healthy and some not so, when we'd drive from NC to NY, especially when
the girls were small. Did some on other trips too but some years ago
decided it was easier to buy some meals. We do pack a lunch (or supper)
as well, just depends on the starting point, what's available to pack,
etc. In this case, we had sandwiches with us and had intended to buy a
quick supper, just decided to do the bbq for lunch and have the
sandwiches for supper.

RH> Filled us up & with fast service, we were on our way again only about
RH> 45 minutes after stopping. We are definately going to try to time
RH> things so we can go back--it's about a 4 hour drive from the Holley
RH> area, about 8 hours from here in NC. Have to figure out what it would
RH> be from my parents. (G)

NB> Do you normally go 11/15 to visit your parents, too...? Do it often
NB> enough, the place will think you are regulars... (G)

No, usually for mine, we go 95 to 83 to 81 unless we decide to avoid DC,
then we go slightly differently. So, it wouldn't work unless we were
going to visit our friends in McClure (PA) on our way from NY back to
NC. We did that in August and last December but didn't hit the area at
the right time for a meal.
