=======================
-=> Quoting Michael Loo to Glen Jamieson <=-

GJ> I got the impression that Malaysian was still trying hard, but
GJ> Singapore was better organised, particularly in airport related
GJ> activities. Singapore is slick. Malaysian muddles.

ML> I've only flown in biz on Malaysia; have flown all classes
ML> of SQ. In C, MH was at least as good as SQ, with the added
ML> plus that the flight attendants really seem to like their
ML> jobs and do the subservient thing just so, whereas on SQ
ML> they all appear to be looking for sugar daddies. And

Did I miss something there? I thought they were just being nice to
an older person in the best ("Uncle") Asian tradition.

ML> perhaps most important, the MH lounge serves appropriately
ML> spiced beef rendang and chicken curry. I admit that the
ML> Silver Kris food selection is wider and with booze.

My experience with MH is only in C, but I put them both on a par for
food, with Singapore having the edge on wine. It is mainly on the
ground facilities where Singapore is superior.

GJ> Qantas is now offering free flights to NZ and domestically to try to
GJ> persuade disillusioned patrons to return to "Australia's Own Airline".

ML> Will you be taking advantage of any such offers?

As I was not disadvantaged by the internal bickering of Qantas, I am
not eligable for those free flights.

GJ> The King had an uncontrollable stammer, which made it impossible for
GJ> him to give inspiring speeches before and during WW2. The Australian,
GJ> Lionel Logue, taught him to overcome that handicap. A recent movie,
GJ> on that subject, "The King's Speech" won 7 British Academy Awards.
ML> It won four real Academy Awards as well. In 2007, The Departed
ML> won four likewise, and I didn't see that one either, nor do I
ML> believe that the Massachusetts State Police had one all-knowing
 ML> mobster infiltrated into it.

I believe you....

ML> Does anyone know the balance between costs and revenues of
 ML> Hollywood vs. Buckingham Palace?
ML> Tax Payer Treasure Hunt claims the Monarchy's ratio is
ML> USD128M/300M for a net profit of $172M. According to the
ML> sources I have seen, Hollywood barely nets anything. So
ML> a big win for the Brits. Of course, it is in the interest
ML> of the Monarchy to show a profit, whereas the movie studios
ML> would do well to do the opposite.

I don't think the Monarchy has had to bother about the bottom line of
their existance for the last 1000 years or so, but I am sure they
would have been happy to know those figures.

GJ> It is likely that someone, somewhere, has, to prove a point.

ML> I like the last comma there and how its absence would completely
ML> change the focus of the sentence.

Hehe! Glad you picked that up.

GJ> workers living closer to their work places. You and other Americans
GJ> (and Australians) are becoming increasingly aware of the limitations
 GJ> of personal mobility vehicles
ML> Some of us have always known.

I usen't to, but in recent years I have seen the light.

GJ> quick and easy to get around such cities as Singapore, Warsaw, Prague
GJ> and Budapest, as thanks to somewhat repressive past regimes they have
GJ> largely escaped the plague of universal private ownership of cars.

ML> Another factor is that much of the infrastructure had to be
ML> replanned and rebuilt after WWII. Sometimes good things come
ML> of bad, as with Beethoven.

That is true, but in the above mentioned countries they could have
rebuilt in a car-friendly fashion, as USA did, encouraged by Generous
Motors. Instead, they provided more socialist transport systems,
which have better withstood population expansions.

I see that your man, Obama, made a brief visit to Darwin, where he was
given a complimentary crocodile insurance. He prepared the locals for
the forthcoming 2500 US Marines who will be going there for training.
Then they can go home and pass on what they have been taught to the
rest of the US Army.

      Title: Singapore Chilli Crab
Categories: Mains, Seafoods, Singaporean, Asia-se, Charmaine
      Yield: 3 servings

      2 md Crabs
    125 ml Peanut oil
      2 ts Finely grated ginger
      1 ts Finely chopped garlic
      3 Red chillies; seed/chop
      3 tb Tomato ketchup
      3 tb Hot chilli sauce
      1 tb Sugar
      1 tb Light soy sauce
      1 ts Salt

Scrub away any mossy patches on the crabs, Remove hard top shell,
stomach bag and fibrous tissue. Chop each crab in 2 or 4, depending
  on size.

Heat a wok and add oil. When hot fry the crab pieces until they change
colour, turning them so they cook on all sides. Remove to a plate.
Turn heat low and fry the ginger, garlic and chillies, stirring
constantly, until they are soft and smell fragrant bu do not let them
brown. Add the tomato ketchup, chilli sauce, sugar, soy sauce and
salt. Bring to the boil, then return crabs to the wok and simmer in
the sauce for 3 minutes. If sauce reduces too much add a very little
  water. Serve with rice.
