I like the inside of Reese's cups: they're not really peanut
butter but have a nice peanut taste (and intriguing nonhomogenized
texture). The outsides are secondary ...

There have been variations in the thickness of the candies
over the years, including really flat ones with not so much
peanut in them. You might have liked those.

Apparently lime, green apple, and carambola. As I don't like
artificial lime or artificial apple or carambola at all, you
can understand my position.

Looking on froogle, a bottle of Johnnie blue is price equivalent
to one of Macallan 21 or 1.2 of Glenlivet 21.

Fair enough. In my case, I went back to Maker's Mark at
1/6 the price and a goodly amount more (and at least as
good) taste.

Chocolate Chip Torte
cat: dessert, slightly less weird
yield: 1

1 c dates (chopped)
1 1/2 c boiling water
1 ts baking soda
1/2 c margarine
1 c sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c flour (sifted)
1/2 ts salt
3/4 ts baking soda
12 oz chocolate chips
1/2 c nuts (any - chopped)
1/2 c sugar

In a saucepan, bring first three ingredients to a
second boil. Remove from heat, stir well, cover, and
refrigerate until chilled (or overnight).

Cream together next six ingredients.

Blend in the cold date mixture.

Pour into a greased 13x9" cake pan. Top with chocolate
chips and nuts, then sprinkle with sugar.

Bake at 350F for 40-45 min.
