I think that I had heard about the Germany being a bar to blood
donation.  Apparantly, that is no longer true since our Bryan has given
blood and was stationed there for a while (as well as other places
overseas).

In our case, we don't give blood because it would be very difficult to
get it out of us.  We gave once 40+ years ago after Gail's father died
in the hospital.  They told us to never come back.  Even when they take
blood for lab work, they cannot get it in the usual place of the elbow.
Has to be back of hand or perhaps forearm.  Elbow veins are too small,
roll or whatever and they just give up after a few probes.

Good for them and for you.  I've been to some places advertising AYCE
prime rib, and it was not worth the money.  I'm glad that we found that
Irish pub with a Tuesday night special.  Their prime rib is pretty good.

There is a diner chain in the area called the Double-T Diner.  There are
perhaps 8-10 of them spread out over Maryland now.  We go there on
occasion.  Like many diners, they have a very extensive menu.  One time
(and one time only), I ordered a porterhouse steak there.  As is my
custom, I said medium rare.  What came out was a thin (less than 1/2
inch) hunk of meat that had no pink at all.  Looked and tasted like it
had been slapped onto a flat hamburger grill and forgotten for 10
minutes or so.

They have other dishes that are pretty good -- but steak is not one of
them.

      Title: Western style eggs in pitas
 Categories: Sandwich, Breakfast, Egg, Potato
      Yield: 4 servings
 
      2    Med. pita pockets
      1    Lge     potato, wash & dice
    1/2    C       red pepper, diced
    1/4    C       red onion, chopped
      3    Med     eggs
      3    Tbsp    skim milk
 
  Cut the pita pockets in half and open each side to stuff.
  
  Parboil or microwave the diced potato until soft. Coat a non-stick pan
  with cooking spray and lightly brown the peppers and onions. Whip the
  eggs with the skim milk and then add to pepper mixture. Stir as they
  cook.
  
  When eggs are thickening, add potatoes. Cook until completely done
  and add salt and pepper to taste. Fill each pita pocket half with 1/4
  of the egg mixture.
